Air Conditioning not very cold...

Hello folks... havent been here for a while (been hanging out on a golf forum). Yesterday was a pretty warm day in Los Angeles and I noticed that my AC got the cabin cool but wasnt even close to getting cold. I will be addressing this on my next service but is this something thats been somewhat common with other 04's?

Yes its common with 04s, mine is an 05 and it doesnt blow cold. You might just need some freon.

The AC compressors on these trucks suck -- so much so that the 2007 models will apparently be getting an upgraded unit! My 2005 has all it can do to modestly cool my regular cab truck down here in the heat and humidity of Houston, Texas.....

The AC in a regular cab truck should get so cold it drives you out of there.....

I have a brand new '06 and I can already tell that the AC is going to be a problem. I had on '02 and it didn't seem so bad.

A large number of 04 trucks seem to have been shipped a little low on R134.
Also, the numbers the dealer use to determine how well it is working or if it needs R134 seem to be a bit flawed.

I live in the desert, 45 minutes from Death Valley. There is nowhere hotter. The last few years our humidity is very high also. And my A/C is great.
My regular cab can freeze you to death.

There are several thousand new model trucks locally, and the local dealer has only had a couple needing R134.
The rest of the customers seem quite satisfied. I talk to new model owners all the time and I have yet to talk to one with an A/C complaint that wasn’t low change, so I question the design flaw reasoning.
Mostly new changes are to cheapen the build costs and to increase the CAFE.
Chris

make sure you have it on "cabin recycle" or whatever you call the button that makes it take in cabin air. The manual reminds us that this is how you get max cooling...

Did this and I still wasnt impressed. When I first purchased the truck remember reading something about not having enought coolant before but didnt bother me enough to chack it out. This will be on my next service checklist.

My truck was about half a pound low on refrigerant just after I bought it. I swept and charged it and it's cooled fine ever since. I used it today on the way home with temps in the high 80s (with admittedly low humidity) and it cooled to about 45 degrees at highway speeds set on auto at 70 degrees.

I have a 2006 Reg cab Fx4. Without the recirculation button pushed, the air is "cool". With it pushed, it is cold and I have to turn it down. If you just run regualr a/c and not the max, you have to turn it on. I noticed that the first day after I bought it. I have never had any problems and I live in TN where when it is 85 degrees with high humidity, it is like Phoenix at 110. Push the button and it works great, at least for me.

I agree! It almost hit 90 degrees here in Dallas and was cooling so-so. On my '06 scab I pushed the button and it about froze me out of the truck!

My 06 Screw has great AC. I usually set it on 2 until the truck cools down and then I swith it to 1 or I will get frozen out. I keep waiting for something to start going out on my truck, been reading alot of horror stories on this site. Of course my truck just went over 3000 miles so could be too new to start experiencing some of the problems. (keeping fingers crossed)

my AC SUCKS! I have to put my truck on MAX AC and on the highest blower setting (4). and it will never cool down in the summer time.. During the winter i dont really need it.

During the summer i can be drivng down the freeway for 25 minutes and still on my truck on MAX AC with the blower on 4... It is absolutly Horrible compared to my old 2002 F150... Think i need the dealer to check it out? My only worry is since i have E-fans they will blame that for the AC not working well...

Mine has done good over the last 2 summers, but when I used it yesterday it was not very cold at all.

There is a TSB on this one. Low refridgerant level. I had mine checked and they replaced one of the lines to allow coolant to be added and so far so good. And I live in Phoenix.
