What is the difference between pre May 04 build and post May

I have seen this on several sites: (* please note: This system will not work on all Ford 150 trucks manufactured after May 31st of 2004.)

I would like to know what is the reason for this. I know there were two different trucks being sold in 04. Could this be the reason? If not what? Just wanting to make sure when purchasing any future mods so I don't get something that will not improve the truck.

That clip is off a catback system but I have seen that statement on other products for these trucks.

If I remember right, part of it has to do with the exhaust, somehow its a little different. I don't know what the change is exaclty or what else is part of the difference but that part of difference is due to the exhaust system.

Ford changed the design of the intermediate pipe on the new body style trucks made after that date.
