competition cams available now

comp cams can finally end the debate over low power in these motors.
here is the link:

http://www.powerandperformancenews.c...y_Code=FRD3VCK

For the springs he said they are the same as the 4V, part number 26123-1 (order 24) which is the beehive spring

get the biggest cam your local emissions will let you. these 5.4's need a lot of cam to overcome smallish intake valves.

expect to reach the 400+hp level with proper intake manifold mods. not upper ilet tubing, but actual cut apart and modded intake. i'm telling you guys this manifold is easy to mod. i will post pics of mine if there is any interest.

1. cut apart
2. shorten runners
3. plug ands with lexan
4. reattach lower cover
5. use it.

the end covers i made go in here.

remove the material between the runners. to include the plenum inlet body.

remove control rods, butterfly plates and silicone in the valleys while retaining the bearings.

here are some pics of the manifold before putting it back together.

I am pretty trashed right now but I'm confused, those only show them available for the 4.6. With only this mod you are expected to reach 400hp (at the crank)?

Can you answer my question? I am guessing this is similar to boring/stroking a motor.

I would call them before you ordered one for a 5.4....they all only say 4.6...

no, you just drop them in and add the springs required. no need to bore and stroke it. 5.4 is enough. if you stroke it you'll lose high end hp. i turn mine to 5800 every single day. all the time. what i needed is cams, and now they are available. when i go to the track next time, i will document the increase from a short runner intake. i made 326 fwhp with the long runner. about 265 - 270 rwhp.

4.6L & 5.4L 3 Valve Modular Camshafts & Kits

F4.6 3V Modular XE253H-14 Cam Set
Code: 127100
Price: $873.75

they ARE for 5.4.

there is no difference in the heads, valves, cams, etc. between 5.4 3v and 4.6 3v. same part numbers same factory. same clearances. the VCT programming is different, but they need the same timing for low end anyway.

Do you have a more detailed procedure on the intake mod?

If you do, could you email it to me? joelinst@comcast.net

Thanks

I'M NOT AT HOME RIGHT NOW. BUT I CAN GIVE YOU ALL THE PICS NEXT WEEK. it changes the rpm band to 3000+ and ends at 6900. add cams, and a good exhaust and whammo.

the rods can only take 6000. but we can still make 400 flywheel at 5800. i'm changing rods and pistons this summer. forgings. i want it all. i'm also going to solid lifters.

i will publish detailed plans for modding it. including all the tools. it can be done in one weekend. the cmc plates delete is reportedly worth up to 15hp alone.

What are the official net gains from this mod alone. I'm not looking for "what it can handle" but what are the gains (I'm assuming you were posting what kind of power it can handle compared to the stock block).

i will let you know with timeslips.

the first track outing i ran 82 mph in the 1/8th. the car weighs 3452 with me in it. that's 326hp with the cmc deleted long runner. look at my mods and compare to yours. i am maybe 10hp low because i'm running the stock 4.6 inlet elbow and 65mm T/B. i can't claim anything until i run it after changing just one thing. i have:

65mm t/b and 4.6 inlet elbow
cmc deleted long runner intake
1 5/8" SS shorty headers
2.5" SLP off road "X" pipe
underdrive pullies
19lb injectors with 55psi
i put the stock mufflers back on it.
tune sct(it isn't tuned yet for this, it has the 4.6 still)

i am obviously down on power for right now.the stock 24# injectors are going in after a little more fooling around. the converted tp cable 75mm stock T/B is going on after i weld another upper together. a more aggressive tune after that. i want to see how much it can make with regular unleaded. i use 87 octane for 326hp. this is an engineering exercise for me. i enjoy new stuff. nobody has tried a step by step approach yet. i fully expect to reach 350hp with those shortcomings corrected. that's only 24hp away. i do know the stock intake really gives up after 5200.

Well you lost me at 'the first track...' but I managed to get my way through ;P Only kidding, I understood most but can you first start with what you expect to gain from this, not only numbers but an explanation to why. I understand their is a restriction using the stock cams. I have no background from modding a car, what you see on my truck is the beginning of everything. I decide what I should buy next by research, not exactly first hand experience with the mod. So fill me in with what you know, sounding interesting. I didn't realize until this post you are the guy who dropped the 5.4L into the stang, how's that running? Any timeslips lately?

"cmcc plates delete" Can you further explain this mod? What about the adjustable FPRegulator, would you mind explaining that as well? I am guessing with a stang and being 2wd/3500lbs you don't lose near as much to the rear wheels as us. By the way, the dyno run was before cutting my cats off and pullies.

I am picking up my 06' tomorrow from the dealership. Its getting detailed in the morning . Anyway, I am very interested in this mod. Anyone near Ohio that can help me do it? I am not that mechanically inclined and would love to have 400+ horses. Oh, I do get a 5/100,000 powertrain warranty with my 06', so would this mod void the warranty?

no way you can do it and be covered. this is for those who don't care. i'm the only one besides Ed Olin to do this. and the only one to do it with plastic. i figure it will catch on as i pass it to others. i promise to get hard verifiable hp numbers from the track. my home group is stampedeusa.com. i live in the hopkinsville/clarksville tn area. they will gladly verify mph.

ed got 397 rwhp@6900(nearly 500 crank) with a few select mods. he didn't have good cams. so these are fully capable of 500hp full modded. if you take away 1000rpm's you'll lose ~100hp. i'm going with the most radical cams. also fox lake is cnc porting these for killer flow. there's no need to be pissed at ford for selling these with low power, they are trying to survive. we can make them what they should have been. i am N/A only. i wish Ed had big cams to find out what these can do. in aussie land they get 311 rwhp with bolt-ons and tune. you just have to overcome the programming that keeps it back.
