Heavy Vibration '04 XLT 4x4
Hi All,
New to the forum. My '04 XLT (25,000 miles) but new to me a few months ago, began to give me this ever so slight vibration while driving 55. It stoppped after awhile, so I just figured it must have been the contour of the highway in that area. Since then, it has repeated itself about every 10'th time I drive it. It has progressively gotten worse, to the point where last Sunday, it started vibrated so much I could see the wipes bouncing on the windshield. I was only going 30mph, so I pulled over. It happened again as soon as I approached 30mph, so I pulled over again. I turned around to get back home, and it stopped doing it. I took it into the dealer, and they can't get it to repeat so they are lost.
Anyone experience anything similar?
Thanks!
-Ken

Ken,
I'd be willing to bet that it's your parking brake. One of them is probably stuck. The rear parking brakes use a drum (not the disc) in the rear rotor assembly. Here is a thread with similar characteristics to what you are describing.....

I hope this helps,

I promised a return verdict.... here it is.
I called the dealer and told him about the e-brake.
The dealer then looked on the Internet, and called Ford.
Ford confirmed this problem, but admitted they hadn't issued any service bulletins. They replaced the levers in these drums, and NO MORE VIBRATION for over a week now!!!!
Thank you Forum members.

had the same problem..... took it to the dealer and they said they adjusted the e-brake, which they did... it worked one time then the brake locked up on me....... I then contact my brother (which is oout of state) who is a mechanic who talked to ford dealership in Pa..... they informed him of the problem with the leavers....... So I took things into my own hands and repaired it myself since the dealership that I took it too had no clue....
