im bout to buy some super swamper trxus AT's 38X15.5 R18. With 6 inch fabtech and 3 inch PA body lift. My question to yall is think i should go with a different tire, something less wide? If so what tire/tires. And will much rubbing occur? need info! 195 a piece for a tire is a deal! (cosmetically blemished)

You will for sure have rubbing what a 15.5" wide tire, i would go with a 13.5" wide tire instead...

I would go with them tires bud, the superswamper sts looks awesome and i've heard drive real nice. I would recomend u get the fabtech, body lift and install a daystar leveling kit with an add a leaf at the back, there is no way u will rub with that. I cranked my coilovers to the max tonight and trimmed a little and now i don't rub, personally the 15.50 tires looks good for me, it looks alot more aggresive and with that height of a truck u can pull it off.

The alternative is getting a rize ind 12 inch lift to clear 38's easy or whiplash lift or even cst 8 inch that will clear 37's, i say this because i am regreting putting on a body lift as it was a pita to install and also very expensive once it was all done. I would def recomend a high all suspension lift kit and thats what i wished i had done, but if u must a body lift isn't 2 bad once ur driving the truck as long as u don't do heavy off roading but like i said it was a pain and expensive to put it on, hope this helps and good look with ur lift

 

Well, don't do the spacer on top of cranking the coilovers, you're going to rip a boot. I remember someone posting about this, he said he could tell as soon as he locked it in 4wd it would tear. Personally I think a 15.5" wide tire looks great, but it's more strain on your steering and more weight to worry about however you'll get better offroad performance and better looks (my opinion). I am going with a 6" Fabtech w/Coilovers as you know (already installed it), and am waiting to mount my 37x13.5" Mud Grapplers. I'm sure they'll rub but I'm hoping I can do a little trimming to fix that. I really don't want to invest in a body lift but I might suck it up and install it myself if needed. If you're looking for aggressive MT's I'd look at Irok's, Pitbull Rockers, TSL's/LTB's, Claws, etc. LTB's are not known for their width so you're good their. Rockers are supposed to be coming out with a larger wheel capable tire and they're considered a new breed but are starting to become known on the trail. Hmm, I really can't think of any other tires I'd like on my truck, possibly Open Country's or Mud Grapplers but they're both on backorder. If you're going to stuff 38's you should be able to get away with it on a 9" lift w/3" body. I'd go with Rancho if you're even considering adding a spacer on top of the 6" as we know it works ok.

 

$280?!?!? are you serious? thats cheap. I was looking at 37" tires and they were around $400

 

I havent checked to verify his prices.. but i do know 18" rims make the tires a whole lot more expensive vs 17" rims.. for example i can get a 37x12.50x17 tire for cheaper than a 35x12.50x18 tire..

its the same thing i went though on my 02 f150 when i had 17" rims and the standard was 16".. i had to pay the premium..

Now i have 18" and the standard seems to have moved up from 16" to 17".. so i am still paying the premium...

 

yeah go to www.carolinaclassictrucks.com they have toyo MT 37X13.5R17 for 280 a piece i know its cheap for the tire......but still expensive period

Josiah - That was me. I put the spacer on top of the DL coilovers. It was a crazy angle; me and my buddy (owns his own 4WD shop) were like "Hell No". I mean, if you want a functional 4WD truck.

Also, I agree w/ yoo on the wider tire. It puts more rubber on the pavement and this is what gives that shimmy back and forth and you can feel it in the steering wheel. Also, that shimming and plus the bigger tire puts a real strain on your wheel bearings. And...the heavier bigger/wider tire over works your brakes that can lead to brake failure, wraped rotors, etc.

Sorry, no good tire prices...mine usually cost between $350-$400.
