Still wondering. Am I the only one with this type of setup?

You both have the same extension-type rubber hose and both had problems with the Purolator filter. Maybe it's just a problem with that combo then? You both also have Supercabs. The only other reply I saw in this thread that had a gallery did not have the extension and owned a regular cab. Maybe this is an issue with longer cabs only? I don't know, I haven't looked at mine yet.

They must have put in a patch to compensate for the longer wheel base instead of making a fuel line to fit ....I'm not sure that's very funny!!!
Oh well. No broken blue clips.

I've had the same problem. I also have the little extension. I replaced the filter with a puraltor one about 4 weeks ago. I went to start it up yesterday in the garage and the hose slipped off, motor died and a fountain of gas underneath.

It looks like the extra milimeter of length on the input side is keeping the clip from fully engaging.

Replaced with a motorcraft (#FG986B) and the hose snaps tight.

I'll be replacing mine at 20,000 miles but how much do the Fords fuel filters run? and the Puralators? Thanks!

Earlier in the thread someone said Purolator $ 10.00 and the Motorcraft
$ 13.00.
I got my oil changed about a week ago at Jiffy Lube, they wanted $ 59.95 to replace it...needless to say i declined.

Yes, my dealer lists it at $69 but I think they only charge about $45 if you have it done. The part costs $13 and takes me about 15 min to install. Thaty includes jacking it up and stands. If they do it while changing the oil, it should not take 3 minutes.

Add another $7 or $8 for the removal tool and your still way ahead. It's not a real easy thing to do but once you get the hang of that little scissor tool it's pretty easy.

Good assestment. There will be future times that the engine may burp or miss and replacing the fuel filter is such an easy task that the fuel filter would be the first thing that could be replaced for the small amount of bucks involved. Besides, those who enjoy high maintenance of their rigs would choose to change their filters well beyond the recommended time/mileage span.

I have a regular "kit" of store bought and home made goodies to change my filter. On my '03 I had dual tanks that reduced the amount of hand and convience space. On my single tank '04 the filter is free of encumbrances and the change will have some ease to it.

Changing the fuel filter does not, by far, fall into the same valley of difficulty that changing spark plugs does. Do it....

Good post and photos, TrukMupper.

My 05 reg cab long box has that exact setup as well except the yellow sticker is to the left of blue clip.

Hey, Thanks for the feedback guy's. It's good to know that this setup ain't some kind of Albatross.
One last thing on the replacement. The little orange button makes releasing the fuel line on that side too easy.

I didn't look on the other side of the filter, I take it there's no handy orange button on the other side?

Nope. No orange button on the other side. You have an external keeper clip to remove and you'll need a fuel line release tool or filter replacement tool that slips inside the fuel line to release the flange on the filter from a spring clip inside the fuel line.
