Ford Escape vs F150
Ford Escape vs F150
Thinking about buying an Escape for the daughter. Anyone out there with an escape? How does the Escape acceleration and drivebility compare with the new F150's?

My wife's ride is an '05 Escape. If you get the 3.0 V6 engine I think you'll find the acceleration to be very acceptable for a small SUV. It's not a rocket by any means, nor is it supposed to be, but it is a very smooth, nice running engine. A year into ownership, I'd buy the Escape again in a heartbeat!
As far as the driving differences between the two, I can't really comment because they are such different vehicles. It would be akin to taking the Queen Mary for a spin around the harbor and then hopping into a 14-foot jon boat and trying to compare the experience!
Apples to oranges.....

My wife drives an '03 and it has about 40k on it with no problems. It's pretty peppy and a great little vehicle. Only problem for us is that it is a little small for 2 kids in car seats. Other than that, it's great and very fun to drive.
Love the one that we bought for the wife last year.
The 4 wheel drive on demand was great in the snow this past winter.
The V6 hauls in a vehicle that size too. I haven't tried to run her in it (the thought of my wife at speed beside me scares the bejeezus out of me..
), but from my driving it... I would say it would probably run off and leave my 5.4 in the dust from a standing start.
Plenty of room for all the junk she tends to haul around from time to time plus our daughter.

I figured since there isn't a Escape area here I could mention that.
Besides the Escape is merely an all-wheel drive station wagon. Have you ever looked at the running gear on that thing? The Jeep Rubicon with it's front and rear Dana 44s is good stuff.
Nothing says summer like driving with the top down and doors off. You can't do that in a Escape.
There is a major design change for the Wrangler coming in '07 so you may be able to get a good deal on a '06 in a month or so.
I also think your resale on a Wrangler would be better than a Escape.
I don't think he asked about what the best rock crawler might be for his daughter.
You're talking about apples and oranges.
May as well have suggested an H2.
As someone that's been upside down in a vehicle.... the last thing I want my young daughter in is something without a lid. A guy at work's 16 year old son was nearly killed last year after rolling the Jeep that he and his buddy were "test driving".

Wife just bought an 06 traded her Ford 500 in for it. She drove a 03 which we still have. She just loves it. She wishes she never got the 500, hated it. We have the V-6 in both of our Escapes, very peppy.
Thanks for the comments. I drove an Escape w/ the V-6 and thought it was quite good for acceleration. I am not interested in 4-wheeling it the vehicle, just something nice and very roomy, you know how women, wife and daughters, like to "SHOP". Don't believe the Focus would be big enough so I am looking at the Escape. The Explorer would give the 'girls' tooooo much room.

I've driven one several times and we were on the verge of buying one for my wife when we stumbled across a deal on a 12K mile 2004 Eddie Bauer Explorer for less than what we were looking to spend...
Overall, my opinion is VERY high but, be reminded that they're changing the body style NEXT YEAR -- 2007.

Make her buy her own big slow used car, and make her pay for gas and insurance too. Sure, she'll hate you for a while, but you'll make her a better person for it, and she'll probably wreck it anyhow.
