Best Intake For Our Trucks

I am looking for an intake. I really like the K and N but I heard there was problem with oil getting into the throttle? Is this true? What is a good price for the K and N system? Are there any better ones I should consider?

Thanks

I don't have that problem with my K&N at all. I'd look into the Volant though (wish I would have done more research on that one)

I have the Volant. Sounds real nice. mpg improved a little bit. Hard to argue against it.

My AF1 is pretty nice, I dig the sound. But I would swap it for the Volant anyday, that sucker is cheaper and it comes with a nice looking box, I need water/mud protection now that my stock fan shroud is gone, mud splashes everywhere under there. My AF1's filter doesn't look as good as it used to either (it's dark grey now) and thats after cleaning it.

I say you should really look into why you want an intake. If you are getting it for increased throttle response then go for it. But, if you are getting it for increased mpg, then I would save your money. The manufacturers promise increased mileage, but an intake also make your engine sound more throaty (and you will get increased throttle response), so you will be getting into the gas pedal more which negates and fuel savings.

Also, if you are just looking to get better performance in general...maybe wait and save a few extra dollars for a programmer. Dollar for dollar, an intake is probably one of the worst performance "investments" you can make.

I didn't really notice much after my intake, then again I'm 4x4 and a Supercrew, very hard to notice such small improvements when weighing this much

I just added the volant for my 5.4 and with my xcal2 and magnaflow this truck really gets up and go. The volant to me is the best looking and like josiah said it also has a box for protection when driving off road or on gravel roads. Happy shopping

I guess the same holds true with alot of products: you hear everyone moaning and complaining about the bad stuff, and asking questions to get their problems solved. But the people that have no issues, don't really post on here, "Hey just wanted to let everyone know that things are going smoothly with my programmer."

I have had no issues with my programmer. I always see their are updates coming out, but I have not updated. I was part of the original group buy and have not had any shuddering at high speeds, or my truck not starting. So my vote is for edge. But this thread is discussing what hundreds of other threads have already discussed, and none of them have solved.

Each one has its pros and cons, so just search around and you will find what is right for you. If you see the name on this site alot (XCal, Edge, Volant, K&N, Airaid), you really can't go wrong. Its just what you feel most comfortable with buying.

I have the edge programmer and the airaid jr. I have not had any problems out of either products, they work very very well together. With that and an exhaust it took my truck from mid 8 second 0-60 times to upper 6 second times. Not bad, and n oissues with check engine lights or rough idle, or anything else that may be associated with some intakes.
