Rear brakes worn out before front?

My 04 SCREW just had new rear discs, calipers and pads replaced at 50000km's? The fronts still have 8 - 9mm (5/16") of pad left. Is this right? I always thought the fronts wear the quickest?
The tech told me that the fronts were wearing properly or at a rate they should be however he was concerned about the rear's wearing so quickly. He told me it could only be covered under warranty if there was a mechanical defect in the system. WTF!
Anyone else have this problem with there breaks?

Fronts replaced at 75,000
Rears still original.

Passed state inspection yesterday.

My stock rear pads were nearly worn after 16k miles. Probably could have gotten 2 or 3k more out of them, but I changed them anyways with Porterfield pads.

Front Porterfields have been on since new and I think there's about half left after 17k miles.

I just rotated my tires at 10k miles last weekend and noticed the brake pads still looked like new. Most of my driving is stop and go around town too. I hope I get as many miles out of them as you did Raoul

Brake pads are expensive.
I'll tell you my secret.
Soon after I got the truck, I removed the brake pedal.

The only downside is I replaced the parking brake 13 times and been in 9 accidents.

But I ain't had to buy no stinkin brake pads.

There are plenty of screamin' hyundais and civics around here to slow me down. A couple of those little beer cans with wheels ought to be enough to stop me if I do the speed limit

There had been a issue on the 04s that the e brakes would lock up and not release. It could be that they patally disingauged and dragged causing the wear. Just a thought.

Yes, but the E-brake uses shoes inside the 'drum' the regular brakes use the pads. So the two are not connected.

Correct!

As far as rears wearing down first, my Dad's 04 XLT did the same thing, his rears wore after 22k miles, while the fronts are still good.
