Supercab 5 1/2 vs. 6 1/2 bed
Supercab 5 1/2 vs. 6 1/2 bed
I would love to see some pictures of some of the 2006 models. Currently in Iraq and trying to make a decision. Thanks guys. Also anyone with kids in booster seats. How is the room in the back? I just don't think it is worth $2100 for 6" more in the supercrew.
Duke,
I have more than enough room in the rear seat of my supercab. Remember, since 2004 the Supercab has had 6" more room in the rear than in previous model years.
As for 6 1/2 vs 5 1/2 bed. I have the 6 1/2 bed, and yes, the truck is rather long - 19' 2" long. But if I let the taligate down I can haul full sheets of plywood or sheetrock.
I'm in Iraq too. Camp Taji with 4ID.

I have had no problem with a booster seat in my Scab, plenty of room for my 2 yr. old, I just move the seat up a little so he can't kick the back of my seat!
I have the 6-1/2' bed as well. I do alot of hauling, so the 5-1/2' was a slight drawback for me, partially why I chose the Scab...
Good luck to you both in Iraq!

Supercab here with 6.6' bed.
No problem with room in the cab... actually had 8 full-grown guys in the front the other day for a bachelor party... don't ask.
The bed, for me, is a bit longer than really needed. The only reason I really say that is I don't use the full thing that often, and it is so long that it won't fit in my garage!

I ordered my 06 Supercab from the AAFES car sales program while I was in Afganistan. I got the 6.5 foot Flareside bed. There are a few guys on here that have the 5.5 foot bed on their Supercabs.
johnboy, where are you stationed out of in the states?

I was hoping to get some of those responses. My buddy works for Ford and says I should go with the supercrew. Of course he is not buying it. I have a pretty good deal with either one though with these new rebates.
I am stationed at Camp Corregidor in Ramadi. Part of PA Guard but are attached to the 101 as there Armor support. Hopefully leaving in 4-5 weeks. Thank god

First let me say THANKS to you and all your friends over there. We really appreciate all you are doing for us.
As for the truck, I have a 04 scab, 6.5' bed. Space inside is not a problem. I have 2 teenage daughters that are on the tall side and they ride there all the time with no complaints. The only problem with the scab is the door set up. It can be difficult dealing with the suicide rear doors in tight quarters like a parking lot, and it is tough opening or closing the doors if you are in back. The bed is personal preference. The 6.5 works best for me.

I love my screw but would definitly have gotten a 6.5 bed if they offered it in 05. I bought the screw because I have 2 young kids in car seats 3 yrs old and 1 yrs old. Decent room, more then the wifes Tahoe.
I have an 06 Scab with the 6.5' bed. 2 weeks ago we travelled to Northern Arizona to play in the snow with my 16 and 14 year old grandsons and their best friend in back seat with no complaints. This truck is really no longer than my 98 Scab was but is much more roomy inside the cab. Pics are in my signature

Much Better
I previously had a 2000 f150 supercab and when I got the new one (2006) one of the first things I noticed was how much more room their was in the back. Now I wouldn't want to road trip sitting back there, but I guess that is why I own the truck
. I also have the 6 1/2 ft bed and love it. Its not really long, but getting out of tight spaces can be tricky. Personaly, I would not spend the extra money (almost did) for the Crewcab, unless you fequently carry multiple passengers.

I have an 04 SCAB with the 5.5ft bed. For me, the only time the bed length has been an issue has been with long small items like 8ft light tubes, but with a couple of small straps and the bed extender there where no problems.
One nice thing is it fits easily in my garage; the additional length of the 6.5 bed would have made it tough to get around.
Although for me the SCAB was the choice, in your situation with young children in booster seats and if the additional cost is not an issue, I would go with the SCREW. If you will be taking the kids in and out in crowded parking lots, you will probably end up hating the SCAB. Also the SCREW is only 6" longer than the extended cab so parking etc should not be a problem.
