cold air intake

I'm interested in getting a K&N cold air intake for my 04 with the 5.4 3v. Does anyone know will that trip the check engine light? How hard is install? How much gas would I save if I stay out of the pedal? Any help is appreciated.

I had the 77 series I liked it and I never had a cel problem with the K&N, but I sold it to get the AF1. but over all the K&N was good to me I didn't see much improvement in MPG.

1. Search.
2. It's a crap shoot with the CEL
3. You won't save any gas, period.

Question

They always boast about saving gas using one, should I invest in a chip or programmer? Or do they do nothing for mpg?

And the 'Turbonator' boasts extra MPG's as well but that ain't gonna happen. In ideal conditions with no change in driving habits maybe, but don't spend thousands on mods to gain some MPGs. I've got a tuner, exhaust and CAI and MAYBE get an extra .1-.2 MPG's if I behave (and I don't). The little money saved at the pump will take me years and years to recoup what I've spend. Mod for the sound & perfomance, not the MPGs...

I agree with everything said. I get about 14 mpg on average with the few mods i have. I still recommend an intake, the throttle response improvement is well worth it. Exhaust sounds good but and usually improves mid range hp but i lost some low end tourque from mine. Superchips...in my opinion was a waste. It did nothing as far as performance, only makes my truck shift like a nascar.

I have a Flowmaster setup for exhaust, I am not just out to get mpg that would just be a plus. Just trying to get some positive feedback on what works and what don't.

I have the K&N 77 Series. I love it. I've had it installed for about 4K miles and no CEL's. It has a good tone to it and the install was a breeze. It takes about 30 min to install. Theres a little bit of a gas milage increase BUT nothing real noticable.

Cool

Well I have decided finally, I am going with the airaid cold air intake. I get it today and I can't wait. The guy I bought it from has one on his 06 and he said I would love it. My second choice was going to be the K&N 77 series but I like how the airraid seals under the hood. I will let you guys know how it sounds.

Talking

ok guys, I fell in love with my truck all over again. The sound the airaid gives when the rpms get to about 3,000 is so deep. I love it and I love Ford Trucks.
