Truck Tags

I was looking at pictures of my truck and I got to thinking. Does anyone else on here have FARM TAG license tags?

Used to a long time ago, but the stipulation was that you can only use is for local hauling for farm use. These tags are definitely cheaper, but we always had to supply "proof" of farm use (farm residence). This was in Ohio, but the rules could be different down in Texas.

I do. They are not cheaper here though. They cost about $50-75 more in Indiana. Yes you do need proof of farm relations.

This is what TXDOT has you declare on the application....

"I, the undersigned owner of the Farm Truck / Farm Truck Tractor described above, state that the vehicle will be operated
for the purpose of transporting my own poultry, dairy, livestock, livestock products, timber in its natural state, and farm
products to market or to other points for sale or processing, or the transportation of laborers from their place of residence,
and materials, tools, equipment and supplies, without charge, from the place of purchase or storage to my own farm or
ranch, exclusively for my own use on such farm or ranch. The vehicle will also be used as the means of passenger
transportation, without charge, only by the members of my family to attend church or school, to visit doctors for medical
treatment or supplies, and for other necessities of the home and family. The vehicle will not be used in connection with
other gainful employment. I further state that the description of the vehicle and the weights shown above are true and
correct."

I say go for it and when they pull you over a 2am just say that you are enroute to Wal-mart for necessities of the home and family.

Apparently there is no registration fee for FARM TAGS

All I know is that I had to jump through several hoops before being issued my Desert Storm plates last summer. Had to supply them with 4 different copies of my DD-214 (it never seemed to get to the right person), several phone calls, and no less than 3 months from the date I submitted my application they finally arrived.

Be very careful with a farm plate. Also most states will not allow you to leave the state with a farm plate. You can only drive in that state only. If you have a Family emergency in another state your screwed. Why would you want farm plates if you dont farm anyways?

Exactly. My Dad was not allowed to cross the Ohio river to take steers for slaughter because of the state-to-state thing. To each his/her own, but Texas is a large state. Anywho, it could cost you more in fines than it would otherwise.
