To heck with emblem overlays!

I was going to put black emblem overlays on my truck because everything else is black so I thought they would look good. But it looks like I'm going to live with the stock blue ford oval emblems. So far I have bought black overlays from 2 different vendors. The first set was a perfect fit but they didn't want to stick to the emblem for crap.
The second set stuck good but didn't fit right. They didn't fully cover the outer blue ring that circles the blue Ford oval.So there was 1/2 the thickness of the blue ring surrounding the black overlay. So I give up,I'm almost $40 into this project and the only thing I have to show for it is some very expensive Ford stickers hanging in my garage.Sorry for the rant but I'm $40 in the hole so I had too get it out of my system.

I am not trying to trash talk either vendor, they are both nice people to deal with.It just didn't work out for me.I should have put that $40 towards a different mod.

Hmmm... that's strange. I've heard other people here talk good about Devries Signs.

I have a black truck too and I bought a set of overlays of someone on ebay too that were the wrong size. I don't remember what the sellers name was. When the one didn't fit the grill oval correctly I just threw it away and stuck the other one on my front skid plate.

I know a lot of people have used the 3D domed overlays from zdecal.com.

If I were to get another set that's where I'd order from.

I had the same problem w/ the black overlays, they were too small, I think they made the emblem larger in 06, oh well Ford Blue it is then.

I am indeed sorry about your loss. Truly. I know how I feel when something goes sour and all I have is to show for it is air. Yet, I can't understand this craze about covering up that beautiful blue oval. Hell, I bought an extra one.
Just my opinion.
Good luck.

I bought the domed overlays for my emblems and they fit perfect. the only prob that I had is that I had the Harley grill and that means that it had the 06' emblem on it so the sticker didnt fit it. I just swaped the emblem with my 05' and it fit perfectly.

I just gotta ask:

Did you consider asking either vendor to make it right when you weren't satisfied with their product?

One of the factors that makes web purchases so easy for a vendor is that they don't have unhappy customers call them on it...at least in a lot of cases. I have only had one eBay vendor that didn't eventually do the right thing in over 500 purchases. At least one of the folks you dealt with is well known to people on this forum, and I'd think they'd be interested in maintaining that positive relationship.

No I didn't, but on my first purchase (from webextremes) they overlays were advertised as 04-05 emblem overlays.I asked the seller if they would fit an 06.He said they would and they did.The overlays just wouldn't stick.
So when I purchased the second set from the other seller I didn't bother to ask if they would fit an 06.I assumed the second set would fit because the first ones did without the blue outer ring showing. It's probably my fault for not asking the second seller if they would fit an 06,even though seller #1 said they were the same and his overlays fit correctly.

... I've heard this more than once. So, when you order these overlay emblems, you need to make sure the product seller knows the difference. Sorry for your troubles.

FYI: 2006 emblems are completely different than 04 and 05 emblems. They have a raised "FORD" logo instead of being flat like the old ones. If no one has told the guys on e-bay they are just going to keep selling them not knowing this. You will not be able to put overlays on the newer style emblems.

Yeah they are definately different. I was surprised to see that it looks like the ones on the 2006's look like they're more expensive. The 2004-05's were chrome plated plastic... the 2006's look like real metal. I though ford would have gone in the opposite direction and cheapened them up, but I'm not complaining. The new ones look nicer, but I think Thrill Racing is right about not being able to put overlays on the new style!
