OK, i'm not happy and i probably wont be, but i'm gonna try. Right now I have a K&N FIPK and Custom exhaust, but most of my mods are visual. I have planned to add better exhaust, and electronic fans, and 4.56's in diff. What more can I do to gain power?.......I want ALL the available options out there to gain power.

The Tuner is going to be your biggest bang for the buck.

There are several available out there and, as a pre-warning, you're going to get PEPPERED with the comments like "buy this" and "buy that"... what I'd encourage you to do is to fish around and read within the Chips / Programmers forum, as well as this forum, and draw your own conclusions. As most will tell you, they all have their pros and cons... some will yield bigger bangs but don't offer something else... some that offer something, won't yield bigger bangs... etc... etc... etc...

In short, I'd encourage you to do your own research and draw your own conclusions...

Best of luck in your endeveor... there's copious amounts of 'fun' left in the motor under your hood... a tuner, of just about any brand/shape/flavor will help bring a good portion of it out of hibernation.

Edge, Predator, Xcal from BamaChips are all great tuners and you'll be very happy with either of them. Headers, E-Fans, Pulleys, Gears, Supercharger. Theres really no end to what you can do.

Well that's really not possible unless you can figure out a way to build an engine that can support a supercharger, turbocharger, and nitrous.

Seriously though. A tuner is probably the best bang for the buck as RP said. Here's what I would recommend.

1) Tuner - This one's a gimme.

2) Gears - If I could have bought my truck with 4.10 gears I would have, without a doubt. While upgrading from your stock gears (3.55 or 3.73) won't cause your vehicle/engine to produce any more horsepower or torque; they will get you up to speed faster... literally! The downside is that your engine RPM's will be higher at all vehicle speeds, your vehicle top speed will be reduced, and your fuel economy will decrease. 4.56 gears will increase the advantages and the disadvantages. If you're going to be using tires that are relatively close to the stock diameter then I wouldn't recommend 4.56 gears if this vehicle is your daily driver or if more than 10% of your driving is over 55 MPH.

Before you change your axle gear ratios you should first take note of your current engine RPM's at different speeds. There are a lot of online calculators to help you figure out what your RPM's would be at different speeds with different axle gear ratios, but none of them can be 100% accurate for your/our trucks because they need to know the gear ratio of all the speeds of the transmission... or really the only one we're mainly concerned with which would be 4th gear (overdrive). I believe the OD gear ratio of our transmission is right about .74:1

3) Turbocharger - Probably the best performance gain would be a turbocharger since they don't really steal engine power to make more power like a supercharger does. The problem with this is that to my knowledge there's no bolt on turbo kit for an 04+ F-150. You could have a custom install job, but it would be very expensive.

4) Supercharger - Just to clarify... when you see supercharger manufacturers make claims of 50% increase in power you need to know that those numbers are not realistic "END" results. Lets say an engine makes 100hp and a supercharger is capable of making 50hp; this is where the manufacturer would claim their 50% increase. What they don't tell you is that the pulley on the supercharger that's being turned by the engine accesory belt is one power stealing SOB!!! Also, with a supercharged engine the air is being compressed before it enteres the engine and when air gets compressed it gets hotter... this also reduces horsepower output.

But when it's all said and done a supercharger does make a good amout of power increase. With some other mods you may get in the vehicle after the mod is installed and drive around and say "Well I think it feels faster." With a supercharger there will be no "thinking" about it... you will know that the vehicle is much faster.

The biggest downfall with a supercharger is the price. I haven't really looked much for the 04+ F-150's but I don't recall seeing any for under $3k. They make great power gains, but the $ for HP isn't that great.

Naturally if you supercharge you want to upgrade your exhaust.

Another benefit of a supercharger is that since the primary fucntion of the supercharger is to increase overall efficiency of the engine, you will increase your fuel economy. The problem is that once you get it installed you're going to want to drive faster so this doesn't happen much.

How much do you want to spend? If the sky is the limit, you could:

1. Add forged steel crank, performance rods and psitons etc to withstand s/c and NOS

2. Add some clutch packs to tranny for durability

3. Charge it

4. Tune it

5. Gear it

6. Add supermaxx long tube headers and exhaust cat back

That should get it smoking. Tuner will make the most difference for less than $500. Charging with tune is a huge gain, but willl run you some coin. GEars and tuner will deliver a healthy bump up.

HHHMMMMM, thats a good question. Well, considering it is a truck and a damn heavy one at that. I would say, save up and buy something that was meant to go fast and gain HP.

baja......when I re-gear what importance does knowing the previous RPM's have? That may sound like a moronic question, but I can be pretty dumb sometimes.

To everyone else....thanks a lot for the insight. Looks like I'll be re-gearing, adding headers, e-fans, then tuning.....then maybe even saving for a supercharger.

I used to hear that Troyer with the Xcal was the best tune, now what is this Edge? I have honestly never heard of it until yesterday when I was browsing through.

For my exhaust I'm getting Gibson headers, high flow Supreme Cats, and I am not sure what muffler I should go with.....I will be running duals straight back, so I will be using 2 cats and 2 mufflers. What are recomendations for the muffler?

I'm kinda interested in the Flomaster 40 series, but other than that I have no idea what to pick.

Well those numbers will just help you to know what your RPM's will be at and at what speed with different gears so you can make a good choice of gear size.

Go drive your truck at 70MPH in OD and see what the RPM's are. Then come home and plug your tire size and current gear ratio into one of the online calculators you'll find and you'll see that the RPM's from the calculator for 70MPH won't match your actual trucks 70MPH RPM.

Therefore if you were to base your gear purchase decision off what these online calculators say then you'd be basing that decision off of bad info. These online calculators need to factor in your transmission gear ratio; most of them don't ask because people generally don't know.

Say if your 70MPH RPM is 2000 and the calculator says it is 1900RPM. Just guess to increase the gear size from 3.73 to something like 3.85. 3.85 doesn't exist, but it whatever % you added to your factory gear needs to be added to your desired gear choice ratio for the RPM's of the calculator to be accurate.
