Ummm, pardon my intrusion, but- is this indicative of a 4WD problem, or does it affect the 2WD as well? TIA

I was wondering when these posts would start showing up. I think people are finally getting some miles on their trucks with these spacers.

Thats too bad.

Time for a lift!

Ball joint failure that early and some with out kits does cause a concern. I put my Autospring 2" on 1K ago and it looks great and rides great. The warranty question does concern me though.

Not to start a war or anything but this is the main reason I took my Daystar kit off months ago. If you look at the extreme angle the ball joint runs at even on level ground it will scare you. Now granted its a "ball" shaped joint and designed to move around in its socket but thats from a neutral position. The spacer puts it at the extreme end of its movement area and then you are tweaking it from there when 4 wheeling etc. I just hope these spacers don't turn out to be a disaster for everyone, I did love the looks of mine when it was on.

There have been a number of people wear out ball joints on these trucks without leveling kits. This was about a year ago, but most were in places that salt the roads in winter and do alot of off-roading. I don't think that the spacers are the only thing to blame here.

I agree and wasn't implying that they were. I think we have a somewhat weak design here, mainly because they can't be lubed, and the spacers just aggravate the problem due to the angles involved.

That's why I'm not sure if I'm going to put on a leveling kit on my new truck. I did have it on my 04, but never really liked the added angle of the upper arm or the extra stress that may be put on the front drive shafts. I think this time I may wait util I have the $$$ for a lift and new wheels.

here is my "homemade" car, im not afraid to put some air under it, im also not afraid to drive it on the street.

the arms would be just like the chaos fab, except only cost me about $150 to make. then no worries..

the chaos ones dont come with shocks or anything, one kit does come with mounts, but the coilovers are all extra$$$

Not crap. Just because you cant doing doesnt mean it cant be done.

Is that an intercooler I see?

I dnt think this issue is specific to 2WD or 4WD. I have the 2.0 leveling kit from Truxx.... I can hear a nasty "thunking" when I go over speed bumps too fast. I dont see any wear yet but I have a felng I am going to start seeing some soon...

$80 per upper control arm from Ford. I created the same problem when I leveled my truck and ended up replacing the upper arms. When I removed it in favor of the 6" Pro Comp lift, I replaced both Upper Arams. When my son & I leveld my wife's 2006 F150, we were more careful and didn't harm her boots at all. Spend the money and replace the upper arms; otherwise, your ball joints were give you trouble.

How do you know if your upper ball joints are bad? Both my seals are ripped, but they weren't ripped from the install, I don't know how they ripped though.

We're thinking of removing the rear lift blocks to level our truck. I would assume that this wouldn't contribute to the ball joint wear problem....right?
