Tire opinions wanted

I am thinking of purchasing a set of Goodyear WRANGLER AT/S LT275/65R18 OWL Tires.Anyone own a set of these because the reviews I am reading are mixed. In the late 80's I owned a set of Wrangler Radials and they were very good tires.Just wondering if they are worth buying since I dont really need tires but I found a very good deal on them along with a set of FX4 rims.I currently ride on Michelin tires and like them but I really like the FX4 rims. They would be going on my 2005 XLT Screw 4x2.

Thanks in advance.

I have the stock AT/S on my truck and I don't have anything bad about them. So far they are great tires although I haven't been offroad in them, but snow and everyday is great. My dad just got the silent armor ones and loves them. Good luck.

So they have 3 types of Goodyear Wranglers AT's now in 18":

1) E load rating (VERY Heavy tire and can carry a very big load). Leave those to the F250, they are hard to balance on our trucks, I took them off after 200 miles.
2) Wrangler ATS: I then went with regular ATS tires that come OEM, I really liked them, but since I really wanted the new ATS with Silent Armor, my buddy at the Goodyear store got me a set so after 500 miles w/ regular ATS (in the same size you specify) were put on.
3) Wrangler AT/S with Silent Armor (check my gallery for pics): These just came out and may not be available nationwide yet: I really like the tires, the sidewall looks better, and they handle great in rain and rocks so far, tread pattern is near identical to the other two. They have a better sidewall bite, rim protectors, and a better warranty (includes towing if you get stuck in mud if the tow truck driver says he can get to you). They even weigh a couple of pounds less than the regular ATS and have nearly the same load capacity.

They aren't easy to get balanced in general, I think this goes for all heavy AT tires. The E loads were very bad, the regular ATS went on with no issue although one of them was 3.5oz out of balance, usually 2oz is the max you want to see added. Oddly, they added 3.5oz and put it on the right rear and it worked perfect. The ATS with Silent Armor weigh about 2-3lbs less than the regular ATS, load rating is nearly identical, and all balanced with 2.5oz or less but I do have a slight shake at ~68mph and again at around 76mph that will require a rebalance.

Thanks for the responses, I ordered the four Wrangler tires and rims (take offs from an FX4).I havent had the steering wobble problem with the Michelins, hopefully I wont have them with the Wranglers either.

By the way 4 tires Goodyear WRANGLER AT/S LT275/65R18 OWL and 4 rims from an FX4 came to $950.00 total with shipping. It seemed like a good price , what do you think?

I you haven't purchased them yet, I would check eBay. There are several sets on there for $625 - $650 plus shipping which is usually $150 - $200 depending on where you live. May save you $100 or so. Good luck...I'm considering doing the same thing with my XLT.
