dumpster dive- :(

so, we got 2" of snow this morning before i went to class- i decide, oh i'll get some coffee. so i get my coffee, get in the truck and turn in to this narrow alley/driveway thats only about a 1' wider than the truck to get back to the street., well, i turn in and on my passenger side, there is a dumpster on wheels the proximity of my truck to the dumpster+the incline+the ice&snow, makes the dumpster break free, slide down hit my truck under the side view mirror, pivot, slam into the scab door, and grind down the side till it lodges in the gap between the cab and the bed. its going to ford body shop on saturday for $970 of repairs. effing a.
when i chill out a bit about it, i'll get some pics, i know how we all thrive on pics...

I don't think I'll ever have a body shop replace a part I can do myself again. In my gallery that door and fender were almost $3k worth of damage from wheeling, effin a is right. I think the painting was the only thing I would have paid to get done.

EEK! That sucks Balog! I plowed a shopping cart the other day by backing into it...luckily it was one of those plastic carts and i just punted it. It scraped/rubbed a few marks on my tailgate...can't see over that "Wall of china" known as the tailgate sometimes -- you weren't so lucky, sorry man

Find out who owns the dumpster and have them pay for the fix. Just like in shopping malls, if a cart hits your vehicle, go to their customer service and file a claim. They are responsible for their equipment. It might be a fight to get them to own up to it, but you might be surprised if they know what implications could be put on them if they refuse to take responsibility.

Sorry to see that, I would be pissed.

thanks guys- well the front door scratch isnt too bad, its down to the metal, but is clean...the cab door is screwed... to the metal plus some, and its left a nice crease there...the front scratch is about .25" high, and the back ones range from .25-1.5" and are deep...the dent itself is about an inch to two inches deep, the pictures dont show well.
it was like the pressure of the tires on the snow near the dumpster was just enough to make it move, then all hell broke loose as i was going forward, and it slid into me and down the side...... looking at the estimates, the ford body shop came in the lowest- and the actual repairs to be done arent too bad, maybe $350 all said and done, the labor is the killer for taking both whole doosr apart, and the mirror, and the window etc..and putting it back together.

at least its solid black, no two tone, color matching to be done. so much for the xcal2 this spring.

roush- yea, i though about it, but it was a small privately owned coffee palce and i figured trying to get them to deal with the repairs was going to be more hassle than its worth- i'm up and over my head in thesis work so dont have the time to argue,& they/i cant prove either way that it slid into me (which it did) or if I ran my 40k truck into it- ijust sucked it up to accidents happen, might as well move on and take it- just gonna pay it out of pocket and skip insurance, or else i'll be paying for it for the next five years in premiums.
