Tired of paying Preimum prices for Dynamat
Tired of paying Preimum prices for Dynamat

You want the ultimate not the extreme. It works well, not as good as Hushmat, but far cheaper. We haven't used Dynamat at the shop in a long time. Most serious installs get Hushmat. I used the b-quiet in mine and have been satisfied.

Go to your local hardware store in the roofing section and look for some stuff called Peel N Seal. I have this in my truck now and have it in my VW GTI which has a $5K sound system in it.....This stuff is just like Dynamat(IMO) at a fraction of the cost.... I have up to 6 layers of it on some sections of the car, and in my truck I was able to do 5 layers on the front and back doors for about $75.....Trust me for the price you will be totally happy

WOW.....THANKS everyone - great information
I should've asked this question about $500.00 ago
laynlow - thanks for the link - that's a serious discount on the Dynamat Extreme - $270.00 at Crutchfield - $195.00 at "B-Quiet" .....even better their "Ultimate" product looks to be every bit as effective as Dynamat Extreme and it's even less $$. What would be the equivalent to the DynaMat TAC (foam) sound deadener......would that be the "Vcomp" or the "Lcomp"?

Is this the same stuff you used in your intake?
I would stay away from asphalt based mat (peel n seal, b quiet, dynamat regular, edead, etc.). They all have the asphalt smell...I know some on here say you can't smell it after it is installed, but I used a cheaper version in my last truck that was asphalt based and I could smell it for months. Especially in the warmer months and it heats up.
When looking for a mat, look for a butyl based like Second Skin Damplifier or Dynamat Extreme. No odor and very good products. The Dynamat extreme can get expensive but the Damplifier is reasonably cheaper.
Just my opinion.
BTW, do an internet search on "sound deadener showdown" for some GREAT info. I even think styxnpicks posted the web site once in the audio forum.

Peel and Seal has a strong odor of asphalt. Find and open pack and take a sniff at the hardware store.
Hotlap lives in Southern California and trust me, in our heat asphalt coatings stink. Badly.
Before sound deadening my STX I sat in and looked at more than a dozen cars that had asphalt coatings, edead V1, old style Dynamat, Peal and Seal, others. They smelled like hot road, or hot roof. The owners would tell me there was no odor, but then, most of them smoked tobacco or other substances, and all of them had 'car freshener' soaked into the interiors.
On a hot day you could still smell roof.
This does not apply to the paint-on stuff, or the Dynamat Xtreme, BTX or B-Quiet.
Those who live in cold climates may not have this problem, of course.
This smell was why I used the neoprene. Much, much cheaper, easy to work with.
I just finished my truck, all but under the front carpet. That will wait till I pull a seat for some other mod.
The neoprene, two to two and half layers over the four doors rear panel and under the rear carpet used up 55 square feet. I then added four yards of carpet backing. Looks like the stuff Ford used. I was more generous with it than Ford.
Total cost, 40 bucks for neoprene, 16 bucks for carpet backing, 9 bucks for spray adhesive.
Down side, now I notice my vent visors and intake a lot more. Still, Emerson String Quartets sounds very nice even on the freeway, and despite my MagnaFlow.

I would not be here saying that this stuff did not smell if it was not true.I have my truck and car covered in the stuff with no smell, not even a hint. I have a buddy who did his 06 BMW M5 a couple of months ago, and his car has that new car scent.
