Leaky Rear End
just turned over 66K, expieriencing my first problem that is going to need some attention rather quickly. Looks like where the driveshaft inputs into the rear end is leaking, enuf to leave drops on the concrete where i park and there is a grease pile running back on the pumpkin on the bottom side, it doesnt look like gear fluid, it way thicker than gear oil, i just had my rear end fluid changed this past weekend, did it myself so i know it was done right, dont know if maybe changing the fluid mite have thrown something off that was ready to go, or what, So i dont know exactly what im looking at here as far as what is wrong. anyone have any ideas? oh btw ive had the bedshake, the rear end whine and the innfamous massive "CLUNK" at low speeds while keeping a constant RPM, its mostly around 20MPH dont have a tach so i cant tell ya what the RPM's were at the time. but i cannot duplicate the problem ever as far as that clunk goes. But my baby is outa warranty so im kind of hesitant to take it to the local dealer, cuz once they smell blood they go CRAZY with parts. funny since my warranty ran out, they are more than willing to take a look at ALL of my problems. and one more thing has anyone had problems with inperfections in the paint from the factory? it looks like i have kinda dust particles that got caught under the paint, also my paint is startin to peel in the hood in some spots. ARRRGGHHH!! still got 59months of 369/mo for this baby. dont need this happening.
Sorry to hear your luck. I think that pinion seals just fail sometimes like everything else without warning. The synthetic gear oil used is fairly thick and looks thicker when dirt gets trapped in it. As for the paint, do you park near or under a pine tree sometimes? My truck has been "stained" from the pitch, but if it is dirt in the paint, then they should help you out on that one, and the peeling too.
