Question Homelink on FX4

I've tried building a Lariat and an FX4 on the Ford website and it appears the only option that cannot be ordered on an FX4 that is available on the Lariat is the Homelink Universal Garage Door Opener (now that the FX4 offers the luxury package).

Can anyone confirm or deny if this is true? There is no way for an FX4 to be built with this option?

Not sure about building one but don't let that stop you if you want the FX4. I see them all the time on ebay for pretty cheap and all they need is a 12 volt source and you can add it to your visor.

Well my story is that my 2006 Lariat was in a serious accident and there's a chance it may be totalled. The truck is a lease, so if that's the case, I assume the insurance will pay off the lease and I'll just start a new lease.

My Lariat is black, and beautiful when it's clean. However, this truck is my winter car and the salt on Michigan roads makes it dirty pretty much all the time during the winter months. I would've preferred to get silver so that the salt wouldn't show so much, but as you know, a Lariat is not offered in silver. My other problem is that I want all the Lariat options, because I've grown accustomed to them on my past vehicles (including the Homelink). So ideally, I'd like either a silver Lariat or a silver FX4 with all the options I want.

Adding it myself is an interesting alternative, however, as I mentioned it's a lease, so I don't think I should be adding aftermarket options...

Change out the rearview mirrror to a Gentex with the homelink option. What little wiring will be necessary can easily be undone at the end of your lease and you can reuse the original mirror.

I bought an auto dimming, temp/compass mirror from this guy. He was good to deal with.

Could be a fairly cheap fix to your problem.

My FX4 with lux package does not have the homelink setup.

My experience

I tried building my FX4 and I was in a similar position. I could not get steering wheel radio controls, full info center, or automatic temperature controls. Not sure about homelink though as it wasn't something I was interested in. What worked for me was I dealt with a fleet guy who was really cool. I told him what truck I wanted, (color, and options) and he searched the southwest for the truck. The dealership ended up getting my truck from a dealership a few hours away, and it had a couple options I wasn't really interested in, but now that I have it, I really like the satellite radio more than I thought I would. Hope some of this helps you out. Later

One of the later posts made me think of something else. Does your FX4 with the luxury package have steering wheel controls and full information center (I know it must have Auto Climate Control).

Yes it has steering wheel audio and climate controls. I also have auto climate control, heated seats, blinkers in the mirrors, heated mirrors and auto dim rear view.

If you want the Lariat options, then take a look at the Smokestone colored Lariat. That color almost looks silver in certain lights, and it would be easy to keep clean in the winter.

Yeah, you're right it is pretty close. Except I'm also thinking that I like the look of the FX4 flare side box. However, the flare side doesn't seem to be as popular as the style side.

Does anyone have any feedback as to why this may be the case? Is the bed that much narrower? Or is it simply a matter of personal taste?

I guess another follow-up I'd have for you is if your truck has lighted vanity mirrors. This would provide for an easily accessable power source if I swap visors for one with a Homelink included.
