New Sirius Satellite Install Completed - Hardwired

Thanks to the help of many on the forum, I just finished installing my first satellite system. I went with a Kenwood HU from Crutchfield and signed up with Sirius.

I wanted to do something because I was not satisfied with the sound quality of the am/fm on my Audiophile. Mission accomplished. The satellite radio sounds awesome. I got a P.I..E. adapter and hard wired everything so there is no fm modulator.

I have an 05 XL with the worthless cubby hole under the light on the dash. I have not yet decided on the location for the final install. For a temporary solution, I lined the inside top of this cubby hole with clear document laminate and used the suction cup windshield mount. It worked great! I may go with the cup holder mount that will fit in the cup holders beside the manual transfer case shifter. Any other suggestions are certainly welcome.

Thanks for all the help!

Looks Great! I'm in the process of doing the same thing, only with XM....

What's your next mod?

Next is the instrument cluster. I have a used XLT cluster which looks the same as mine except is has the tach. The one I purchased had higher mileage on it than my XL cluster. I purchased it that way so I would't have to pay to have the mileage set. I am just waiting till the mileage matches, then change them out, then have the dealer program the build data in it.

Power driver's seat is also a consideration.

Why not have the dealer update the mileage at the same time the as you update the build data? Seems it all would take place at the same time with the info from your computer on the truck? Or am I mistaken?

That would get your cluster in sooner instead of racking up the miles until then.

I was under the understanding that the dealer was not equipped or authorized to change the mileage on a cluster. I sounded like the only ones who could do this were the manufactures who build the clusters or select authorized service centers.

It sounded like this is done to prevent tampering with mileage and Federal laws.

I would love to be wrong and get this thing in now!!! I am tired of looking at this bland, empty section of the dash.

Do some digging around here. I know there are guys that have swapped their clusters out.

edit: Yeah after some looking, I do think you are right. Maybe someone will chime in.
