Steering wheel shake
Steering wheel shake
2006 F150 Lariat 4x2
I recently replaced my wheels with aftermarket 20" wheels and tires. Around 40-50 mph, my steering wheel has a little shake to it. Below or above that MPH and it's fine. How much steering wheel shake is normal? I already took it in once to have the wheels re-balanced, but it's still shaking a bit.

These trucks are very sensitive to out of balance tires. With the 20 inch rims, it may be even more sensitive. I have Nitto Grapplers on my FX4 with MB 17" wheels and had them rotated and balanced this past weekend. I did not have any steering wheel shake prior to the rotate and balancing. After leaving discount tire after the rotate and balance I had a steering wheel shake. I turned around and requested a guy who balanced them a while back, he did a perfect job in the past but was actually working behind the counter this time. He went out into the shop for me and balanced them. When he was finished I asked him how out of balance they were. He said they were not even close. It is smooth as silk. The moral of this story is that the man operating the machine has alot to do with it.
