Thumper, I added a 10" Kicker CompVR in a musicmooseaudio.com box and Kicker 450 watt amp to my factory head unit and it Rocks. I know you already have an aftermarket HU so it would be easier and sound even better in your truck. You can purchase similar for under $500. After FX4ME2 heard mine, he ditched the audiophile and bought the same thing. For the money it really rocks for all kinds of music. Very loud for rock and lots of bass for hip hop.
I also upgraded my door speakers to Apline type R's 5x7. They sound great too, approximately $300 for all 4.
With that box you dont have to move your jack either, which I liked.

They are for sale and the sub box too. You would just need the LMI seat lift. Pics in my gallery, email at brypink@***.net if you are interested. I'm getting to the point where I need to get rid of them. I put an ad in the classifieds. If they don't sell here, the subs will be going on the car audio forums then Ebay.

So after much debate. Here is what I've come up with . .

1 L78 - $180
Kicker 400w Amp - $240
Box - $169
Total = $589

I think it will be a pretty bad *** set-up. I really don't want anything too loud and think this will fit the bill perfectly.

I don't see it that way JJG -- Frankly, you've been walking a narrow line lately and seem to be going back to your 'post every 2 minutes' paradigm. Slow it down, turn off the jets, and participate with information rather than idiocy. Please? We've had this talk at least once before now...

Back to your sub, amp, box thread.

I had a similar setup in my old Supercrew and I thought it sounded very good for what I had in it. I had an 8" CompVR with a Kicker 150 watt amp in a probox. The L78 should be even louder because its surface area is greater which means it will move even more air.

I would probably call probox and see if they can make a box for the L78 since the mounting depth should be appropriate for the probox. I think their boxes are well designed and they can cut the box to fit the L7 and have it sent to you or your local stereo shop if they carry that brand. Otherwise any good box builder should be able to get you fixed up.

Don't forget to maximize the power of your amp by correctly matching the impedence of the sub to the lowest that the amp can cleanly and safely power.

Well the L7 8 moves 450w RMS and it peaks at 900w so it should sound pretty good IMO. Im going to be buying the box from www.supercrewsound.com so I can have the carpet matched to the OEM carpet. Im pretty sure the L7 8 is a 4 ohm sub.

Can anyone give me a link to a pretty good wiring kit?

Sorry Thump, the only way I could get a clip is with my digital camera and that would not do it justice. It sounds like you have made up your mind anyway. I think you will be very happy with the results.

What amp are you looking at? I have the kicker kx450.2 and it works great. Also, if you have the power slidding rear window there isnt much room behind the back seat for the amp. I had to put mine under the passenger seat but you cant even see it under there. food for thought.

Im pretty sure Im going to get the Kicker KX400.1 http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3372 or the KX600.1 http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3373

I actually have the solid window so I'll have plenty of room to mount my amps.

I think mono amps are usually quite a bit more expensive. You might check it out because you can probably save some money and get just as good of performance from a 2 channel amp running it bridged. more food for thought, just when you thought you had your mind made up.

From Kicker's website:
"The Solo-Baric L7 is available in 2-Ohm or 4-Ohm DVC and hammers in a sealed or vented box application."

Since it is a DVC sub, you will have to wire it in series or parallel. Depending on which way it is wired, you can come up with anything from a 1-ohm load, a 2-ohm load, a 4-ohm load, or an 8-ohm load?

Make sure you know what you are getting and make sure you will be able to maximize your amplifier without sending it into protect mode or frying it completely.
