Torque converter replacement already?

I posted a thread a while back about a shudder upon acceleration at coasting speeds or primarily automatic downshifts. Some replies thought it might be a pinion angle concern in the driveshaft to the differential requiring several degrees to correct. Well...after almost two weeks at the dealer, my service advisor told me today that the torque converter needs to be replaced. My warranty is up, but he is going to cover the cost under "after warrany adjustments" somehow. Says i have 2 "After warranty adjustments."
The cost being $1360...leaving me with $395....said he would cover the whole cost though.
Has anyone else here heard of this or had to have their torque converter replaced this early on? Doesn't seem right

So... no ones had their torque converter to go out yet on their 04's. Am I the only one here??? Dealer's installing a new one monday and I was wondering if I should have the stock put back ...or a heavier duty set-up geared more for pulling?... ...............(is this the Ford Forum ...where are you guys?)

From about '99ish on up, I haven't had very many torque converter failures/shudders in my experience that weren't fixed with a through transmission service. Of course, given the quality (or lackthereof) of parts used, it wouldn't be anything out the ordinary to have a new one fail. Let us know how it turns out.

The torque converter on my 04 FX4 Supercab failed suddenly and catastropically. It sent metal throughout the transmission and required a partial rebuild.....CHEAP Ford would not pay to replace the transmission with a new one. This was with 10,000 miles on it.

Accually I just had mine replaced last monday. 05 screw 12,700 miles. The input shaft into the tranny was scared and the tranny was not shifting properly because of the complications from the TQ-converter. They replaced the converter, overhauled the transmission, and re flashed the computer.
