I was getting engine failsafe's long before I had my edge so I didn't think it was that. But to be sure I returned it to stock programming drove it around and it was fine.
Sounds like he needs to return it to the stock tune, take it to Ford and find out what the problem is and have it fixed. Having the tuner may just be causing the problem to manifest itself.

First rule in troubleshooting is to start removing or unpluging the possibles. Especially since he said it happened before he got the EDGE. That needs to be ruled out.

stalling, engine fail safe mode

2oo4 f-150 super crew lariat 4x4, my truck was doing the same thing. it had stalled like 6 different times and i took it to the dealer and they ran tests and said they could not find anything. so i drove it a couple more days and it did it on my way to work. this time it would start up and stall right out, about 5 or 6 starts and then the wrench lite up on the dash, so i went straight to the dealer and they pulled 4 trouble codes from the computer. they only knew what 1 was. it was the throttle body. they had my truck for 5 days waiting on a new one. they were on back order, they said. since they changed it, it has been fine since. now if they would fix the slipping in the rear end or transmission, which ever one it is i would be happy go lucky. good luck with yours.

I had it on level 3 and it did it again. So I took RamSS/T's advice, returned it back to stock, unplugged it, plugged it back in and put it on level 3 and it was fine for like 20 miles but then it did it again.
Right now it's set back to stock, if it does it again then we can be pretty certain it's not the edge.
I think it's my factory program and for whatever reason the edge may be magnifying the problem.

I know plenty of people are having this problem with their stock truck it just puzzles me why mine started acting up more after I got the edge.
It may be coincidence or it may be that the Edge is magnifying the problem. Either way I don't think the Edge is the problem, I think it's my vehicles stock program.

It really pisses me off that Ford hasn't recalled this **** yet.
I guess they have to wait until people get killed.
I put in my complaint to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ (The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) And if any of you are having or have had this problem i would suggest you do the same.

Actually, most of us are not having a problem. But we are concerned about the real problem. That is why it is important that you just remove the EDGE so that it can be ruled out. It may be a minor fix. But with it happening so many times and you trying to reload level 3, you will not be able to figure it out. The EDGE can not fix a hardware problem, especially if it had already showed itself prior to even installing the EDGE.

What should be recalled? At this point you don't know what part is malfunctioning.

You may just have to bite the bullet and take the vehicle to someone who knows what to do. Even the best techs can not troubleshoot a faulty part over the internet.

Good luck and keep us posted. Hopefully it will be a minor fix.

Sounds like your beef right now is with your servicing dealer. Either they're genuinely unable to duplicate the concern (can't fix what ain't broke), they're inept to your concern, or they just don't care. I'd call Ford customer service and/or try another dealer.

Well you're right about that, I don't know what is causing the severity of the problem, but this has happened a few times before the edge was even out yet. I'll be it a lot less frequently.
Incidentally my truck is now set on stock and it hasn't done it in a few days, I'll leave it on stock for a few more and see what happens.
If nothing happens what should I do contact Edge and see if they can tell me anything?
Which I highly doubt they will.

Give EDGE a call or email. Ask for Bill. He will need your hex code from your PCM. You just may have one of those freaky flashes from Ford that EDGE hasn't seen yet. I am sure that if it is a problem with the EDGE, it will be taken care of.

I may have missed it, but are you throwing any codes or CEL?

It's been on stock for 3 days now without a single problem.
After tommorow I'm gonna try level 2 and see what happens.
I just sent Edge and e-mail, so if I don't hear back I'll call Bill.

My truck has thrown out some codes. But it doesn't do it everytime.
Before I got the edge when I took it to the dealer, they told me I need to replace the throttle body. But this problem only happens every so often and it's a comptuer thing because when you turn the key off and the back on the, the ECU reboots and the problem goes away, how can it be the throttle body?

I don't remember the exact codes but before the Edge they were indication that I need to replace the throttle body. (keep in mind this problem was a little different then the one i'm having now)

The latest codes its displayed said something about Throttle actuator stuck open, limited forced power... or something like that.
Another one said something about my mass air flow.
I have a couple of them written down but they're outside in my truck, i'll post them later if it will help.

By the way, Expy, thanks for your help so far, if nothing else it's just nice to know someone is listening and trying to help, ya know?
So thankyou very much!

But, it may be related. A bad sensor, a minor short, a loose wire, dirty contact, all can lead to some bad codes. the pcm can only work with what it takes in. Have you tried just removing the throttle body and giving it a good cleaning?

Ya never know.

good luck.

So it has been on level 2 now for damn near a week.
Apparently the problem is only on level 3.
I'm kinda bummed that it's the EDGE

I recieved a reply from Kenny in tech support requesting my hex code and version info, he has not replied back to me since I sent him the new info. It's been a few days. Hopefully I'll find time to give Edge a call and see what the deal is.
I'm wondering if I should try updating.

Bill has been pretty busy this weekend with a problem with the latest update. good idea to just run it in level 2 until all of the bugs are worked out of this update. Some files got corrupted somehow when loaded to the website. Several guys had a no start condition. My Evo just had a fuzzy screen so I didn't try to load anything. Anyway be patient, it's being worked on.
