Lariat chrome rims
Lariat chrome rims
Washed the truck yesterday and again found some pitting on the rims.
I've already polished them once and it did a great job.
But how or what, can I use to keep them from pitting? I polished them 2 weeks ago.
I assume its the brake dust and road salt eating away at them.
Is their a polish that will help repel either the salt or brake dust?
I know that Ford brake pads are notorious for brake dust.
Thanks

There's nothing that will 'repel' but, there are some options that you may consider... one is "Kleen Wheels" (www.kleenwheels.com). Another is to simply keep them coated in a nice synthetic wax like Meguiar's NXT, Mother's Synwax, or Zaino... this will help prevent but not eliminate.
Additionally, some wheels are clear coated -- and I think this is the case with the factory Lariat wheels -- if this is the case, using a 'metal polish' may not be the best option as the metal polish will chew through the clear coating that may be on the wheels.
Quick question to confirm this... when you polish, does your wadding or towel (which ever you're using) turn dark? Like a 'used metal polish' look? Or does it stay, generally, the same color start to finish? Also, what kind of polish are you using?

I am using Mother's metal polish for chrome rims.
Thanks guys
I know, I need to keep them clean. Its just hard sometimes to find the time.

Smokestone - RP has a good point - our factory Lairat rims are clearcoated and you want to be careful not to polish off the clearcoat or you will be polishing those rims once a week to keep 'em shiney.....I'd use a clearcoat safe cleaner/wax - not chrome wheel polish as it is more abarasive.
