Leveling Question

I know there have been a bunch of post about this and I could not find a deff answer to one of my question.

I just bought a Autospring 2.5" leveing kit for my truck. I am having second thoughs on installing it. I am thinking I should have gotten the drop shackle for the rear. I am not really sure if I want to lift the front end.

If I get a 2" drop shackle for the rear..

How does that affect towing and cargo capacities?

How is the ride of the truck going to be affected?

I still will be able to stick 33" tires on my truck down the road?

IMO install the leveling kit, If you don't like it, you can always remove them.

If you have 4WD don't drop the back, that's just stupid.

I have had my Auto Springs levelers in for over 30,000 miles without a single problem....
Its up to you on what you decide on as it is "your" truck. But if your concerned because some claim to have had problems with the AS's, I would not worry because the number of us who have had NO problems is far greater than those who have. Then again several have either removed the spacer blocks from the rear axle, or as you mentioned, installed 2" drop shackles.
Good luck in whatever you decide....Remember, it is YOUR truck so the final decision is up to you...

Marc Carpenter.. No i did not change my mind on what people said about the AS. As a matter of fact I ordered it after reading what everyone had to say.

I am thinking the drop in the rear is going to fit me better. I never take the truck off road any how so I dont need the extra height. Besides the drop will make it easier for the wife to get in and out.

I found some info on the towing and cargo capacities to help me make a choice. If any one wants to know what I have read on the board here is that since you are not removing a leaf then there will be no change in hauling. One thing that might happen is the rear susp might bottom out when towing a load over a big bump.

There is noone that can asnwer my question on ride quality or tires?

Ride will not change with drop shackles or block removal (did the block removal on my truck before the Rancho's. and the shackles on a friends F-150), we noticed no change at all... And yes on stock wheels you can run 33's with a rear drop. There are a few running that exact setup. They wanted to level it by dropping the rear.

cvc14, I once had a 2" ez-lift leveling kit installed which are basically the same as A.S., and I did notice a slightly stiffer ride. I had them in for about 3 months, then removed them and installed the Rancho triple x shocks, that not only replaced stock shocks, but with the adjustable collar, was able to maintain the 2" lift in front. The ride and handling was/is much improved with the Rancho's. To tell you the truth, I never really liked the leveling kit, but remember, that is just my opinion. Like I said in my earlier post, install them, if you don't like them, remove them. Installing or removing are both easy to do. Hope this helps.

I just had the 2" kit installed on mine. I paid a reputable frame shop $127.00 to installed them and do an alignment. The truck is almost perfectly level. I understand you can use 33" tires with the stock rims with the 2" kit.

Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thanks man. Now I just have to make up my mind on keeping the AS or sell it and get the drop shackles.

What drop shcakles did you install on your buddy's 150? Did you need the shims?

How much did the Rancho's help? I headed they well improved ride and handling.

We did use the shims just incase, and we had no issues, so I would use them if they come with the kit

The Ranchos are awesome. By far one of my best mods. The ride is perfect and handles a lot better, just right IMO with how mine are set... Like SC_05FX4, the Ranchos worked out great for us.

In a 4WD truck wouldn't putting drop shackles in the rear cause the front to be higher than the back? Wouldn't simply removing the blocks in the rear of a 4WD level it out?
