Power Q's Newbie need help

Hi guys, new to this forum and to Ford trucks.

I'm looking for a new truck and really like the new F150. Took a std cab FX4 for a test ride yesterday; it had the 5.4 engine but the power feels anemic compared to my current Chevy 5.3. I really liked the overall quality, interiors, ride and handling of the Ford, but the engine thing concerns me. I assume it's more related to the truck being heavier than lack of power.

I know it's a truck and I'm not going to be racing it but I'd like to have more power under my right foot when needed, and that's the only reason I didn't bought it yesterday.

I read here that a programmer like the Xcal2 can wake up the power some, but how much? Will it be enough to keep it closer or beat the other brand trucks (Dodge Hemi, Chevys)?

I know this is hard being a Ford forum, but I'd really apreciate unbiased opinions please

Thanks
