Train horn install question?

Calling all Train Horn installers!!!

I just purchased a train horn kit similar if not, the same as most of you guys here. I having problems wiring the compressor and pressure switch. I see that you guys have connnected your with no problem so I gave it a shot to ask ya for your help. I guess the instructions got lost or misplaced. Here the problem i'm having, i want to connect the T Horn to my stock horns, but I have two wires from the compressor (red & black) two wires from the pressure switch, and two from the T Horn solenoid.

I'm lost. How does the compessor turn on & off. And how does the pressure switch work. Do any of the wires connect to the battery direct or a ignition wire. And i'm guessing the solenoid wires from the T Horn just wires up to the stock horn wires.

The only thing i'm guessing is that by what I've read is that the BLACK wire is grounded and RED wire from compressor connects to one wire on the pressure switch. And then the last wire on the pressure switch gets connected to a ignition source and fused. Is this correct or am I missing something.

I just got this kit mounted and before hooking up the wires I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Your help will be great!

For the compressor you have to have the power source off the battery...it draws a hell of a load when on. Go from the battery to the pressure switch and from the pressure switch to the positive side (red) of the compressor. When the pressure drops below a certain level (probably 120PSI) the switch lets power flow to the compressor and it comes on...when pressure reaches a certain level (probably 150PSI) it cuts off. I put a relay in-line from the battery that will only allow the compressor to come on when the ignition is on but that is optional and not included in the kit.

For your horn button maybe some one can chime in as to the polarity of the factory horn switch...is it neg or pos? I used a seperate switch so I don't know. Which ever it is...you can hook it to either wire on the silonoid on the horn itself...you just have to hook the other wire to the opposite polarity source. In other words if the horn is a ground switch hook the other wire to a postive source (the battery would be fine), or if its a postive switch hook the other wire to a ground. Again it doesnt matter which wire you hook up to which source.

I'm looking also for something of a relay for that the compressor doesnt turn on when ever it drops pressure all day. Is it hard to do, and what do I have to get to complete this relay setup. And how does the setup go together. Sorry for all the questions, but i'm very bad at wires, load and ohm stuff. Thanks.

That video was great. To bad you do not get to see what the cop does at the end there.

The relay install is very basic. First off you do realize how relay works..right? All a relay does is basicaly switch a circuit on and off. What you do is hook your power wire into one port and run it out the other. Then you hook another wire from the ignition to the relay. When this wire is hot it closes the circuit and the power wire to the compressor is hot. When the ignition wire is not hot (ignition is off) the circuit is open and the power wire to the compressor is not hot. You do it this way because it still allows the main power source to be from the battery yet it is switchable.

I use a ViAir combination pressure switch/relay (PN/90111)

Picked it up for $17 bucks and it works flawlessly...

It's also a required part if you're using a ViAir compressor for warranty purposes (I'm running a 450C)

The built in relay made installing it a breeze

How much did you pay for that setup and where did you buy it? Also, what's the axe for?

Here's a small rundown of what it all cost me:

HornBlaster HB4H hornset w/Solenoid, distribution block, line fittings and 200psi line = $189 (shipped next day)

Firestone 5 Gallon/7 Port Air Tank = $49

ViAir 450c Compressor = $159

ViAir Pressure Switch Relay (110 on/150 off) = $17

Misc. Parts (pressure gauge, blow-off valve, airhose coupling, wiring, connectors, fuse holders, heatshrink, etc.) = $20

Nathan AirChime K3HA = $400 shipped

Funny thing is I only paid $500 for the van

As for the axe, it's just part of the tools I keep on hand just in case

Where are people mounting the horns on our trucks? I've been tempted to push the button on the HornBlaster's kit several times... AND NOW THEY HAVE A FIVE HORN SETUP!! I'm not sure how much, if any, louder it is, but damn....
