In Dash Ashtray?

This is a question that I have yet to see an answer on. Has anyone ever seen a factory or aftermarket in dash ashtray on a 04-06 F-150? I am a smoker and it is a pain in the butt without any ashtrays and the cupholder ashtrays are not an option. It looks like, where the cigarette lighter is, should be an ashtray, but I cannot find anyone who knows, even the dealer.

I smoke too. However, I NEVER, EVER smoke in my truck. Never.

Not only does it kill resale value, but non smokers find it offensive. Even when at home, I smoke outside, in the cold and/or hot weather.

Now that I've said that, every 04+ F-150 with the floor shifter has an ashtray, as well as a cigarette lighter. I am pretty sure the ones with the column shift have an ashtray as well, right in between the two cup holders when you pull them out.

Good luck.

I know this is a Nissan site (don't shoot me), but they have a cup-holder ashtray thingy for sale that will work with any cupholder...

Pictures?

Squeakers, Homebudz,

Can you guys post or send me a picture or two, so I can show the idiots at the dealership what I am talking about. They're telling me that you can't get them. I bought a 2000 Explorer a few years back. Same thing. And they're telling me you can't get them either. Thanks for the replies.

Check on EBay as well. I have seen the OEM ashtray/cup holders on there which mount in the recess below the lighter. They have gone for $60.00 or more.

Interesting - I've got an '06 XLT 4X4 with manual transfer shift, and the only ashtray I got was an insert into the 3 bin cup holder on the tranny hump. This leaves me with a shallow void (too shallow to be useful) where the real ashtray lives. Anybody else have this setup?

dexter-

I have the same setup. I'm not a smoker, but it's a pretty lame setup either way. The cupholders on the tranny hump are (a) small (b) spaced way too far apart and waste a ton of good space. The recess below the lighter on the dash is useless, too.

I wish an aftermarket company would make a larger tray / bin / organizer to replace the dumb cupholders on the floor, and surround the t-case shifter the same way.

If Ford bothered to make that cupholder, at least make it big enough to hold a 32 oz Gatorade bottle, like the manly cupholder in my 2000 Dodge that I traded in. The way it is, I'd rather have just the t-case shifter and open floor there.

My 05 XL 4x4 is the same way. I dislike the cupholders in the floor because they take up what little foot placement room there would be for a center passenger. I instaledl an OEM center seat with the storage compartment and cup holders in the armrest. I am going to consider installing carpeting, and doing away with the hump cup holder tray. I hope I can find an appropriate boot for the transfer case shifter that will look right on the truck.

Squeakers,

You came through for me. That's just what I am looking for. It looks kind of cheesy. That's probably why they are not standard equipment. I am assuming that it fits in the space where the lighter is. Next question then, Where does the lighter go? Is it either, or. but not both? Either way, it proves a point. That they do make one. If you're ever in Maryland, send me a note, dinner is on me. Thanks.

To the other guys,

I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks that the cupholders on the floor are useless. And the console I have is pretty useless too. I traded in a 99 F-150, SCAB, 2WD for this. I had the captains chairs in it and the console was so big and deep that you could put a small child in it (only kidding). Now I have, I guess they call it, the split bench. There is a seat under the console, which I don't need. I am considering removing it and getting the big console that goes all the way to the floor. This should give me the room that the other one had.

This forum is the best one that I have joined, so far. Everyone is very helpful, which is what I am looking for. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Jmpancoast - I'm definitely going to lose the floor cupholders...but it will leave some holes in the carpet. I'm thinking of putting the XL mat in the front... is it 2 piece, or does it go all the way to the back?
I'm pretty certain the previous generation shift boot would work for the transfer case lever. You've got to go underneath to release the lever, and be creative in how you're going to hold the new (older style) ****/boot on the shaft...I don't think the new one is threaded for the ****.
If you put in the E-bay cupholder, don't you have to move the rear back up sensor switch along with the lighter? Are there existing tracks for the cupholder?

Thanks - I agree this is a great forum...the things you learn, the money you spend!
