A tip thats worked for me in the past....kind of mist the paint over it again from a distance after its painted (almost like getting overspray on it) and it will kill a lot of that gloss look.

I am leaving mine black since my dash is black...it matches great, but I am sure yours looked like *** before you painted it (black with a tan dash).

The Gunmetal color is a PERFECT match to the dash when sprayed on a piece of card-board. Im almost considering sanding it to get rid of the 'texture' but until it annoys me enough, its staying the way it is.
This might be a longshot, but they used to sell these "leather repair kits" that came with a sort of colored epoxy and then several "texture" swatches that you would place on the tacky surface to give it a matching look.

It never looked right on leather, mind you, but there is a chance that it would match the F150 interior.

To tell you the truth, I dont know of any method of dulling the finish without killing the material... Maybe Edge sells replacement pods for a couple of bucks? It'd be a shame to try something and wind up ruining the pod itself, you know?

It can be mounted with double sided tape or it can just set up there....also the unit can be removed from the pod. So if you mount the pod you can still take the programmer out of it and leave just the empty pod on the dash.

ThumperMX113,

Perhaps you can dull the finish some by using a clear matte finish spray lacquer. Art and photo supply houses should carry it. It is made by Krylon and several other makers. Photogs and artists use it to dull or diffuse a glossy surface. Maybe a coat or 2 of that will achieve the desired effect.

Thumper.... When i used to do models, I used to buy a can of dull coat. I think you can still get it at walmart or an art store. Made for plastic... not sure if that will work for you... its basically a dull clear coat.

I'll try that whenever I get daring enough to sand down the texture of the pod. I'll probally end up ordering another pod from Edge, just so Im not up chit's creek without a pod.

May be worth checking with someone who has done some alternative mounting (like ashtray). They may be willing to part with it. Come to think about it, if you screw it up, it will still work, right?, may just look like chit. If that happens, then you can get a new one. Just a thought.
