Look into custom tuning, it’ll be the most cost effective way to get a little extra power plus utilize what hp you have to the max; it’s all about drivability

An STX usually runs 5-7k cheaper. That may not be list, but that is actual sale price.
And 500 bucks worth of engine mods (and that is a high estimate) will give you plenty of power.
plus, on the other hand the plugs, injectors, tranny on the 4.6 are proven tech. And I don't even want to mention the phasors...

If money is no object, always get the best model with the biggest engine.

If your money has other places you want it, then the STX carries, handles, rides, runs and looks like the ones that cost a little more, or even a lot more.

A 4.6 in a supercrew is NOT cool... Do they make an STX in a screw? I wasnt aware of the amount of price difference in a XLT and a STX. If they make a screw in the STX, i would have bought one except the lack of 5.4. The locks and windows, i would have done them myself if i could save $4000.

i would have gotten an STX but the dealer was trying to unload some inventory and made me a killer deal on my XLT. i wont complain about the power options either! but i do wish i had factory fogs...

I'm afraid of buying a used Lightning and then the next year SVT comes out with the new lightning, that would **** me off cause I wouldn't have the money for a new one then...lol!! The more I think about it I might just get a Nissan Titan kingcab. More power then the 5.4 and priced between the STX and an XLT when I configured then the way I wanted them.
I'm pretty sure there won't be a new lightning, I believe SVT said the 04+ F150 is too heavy. If I am remembering correct, but there is a rather nice Saleen version though

Well, I have driven a 4.6 Screw, 3.73 gears with the 30 inch tires.
This was just a test drive.
It did fine on the Pomona freeway, plenty of pep for a working truck or a family car.
The price on it was 20k while the cheapest 5.4 on the lot (excluding a 'work truck' XL) was 26. That was selling price not sticker. This was last June.

When I bought my STX (September of 2004)the difference was about 12k, as my truck was way discounted.
23,385 down to 12,995.
If I recall correctly the lowest priced XLT on the lot that day was 10k higher.
Again, selling price, not sticker.
I've added all the power options to my truck that the XLT had, and added tuner, exhaust and intake for under a grand total.
That is for the power options and the engine mods combined.
And I must admit I had a lot of fun doing the mods anyway.

If the second gen. lightning is considered heavy then the new f150 is a fat aszz. The lightning has loads of power from that s/c 5.4 so weight isn't really a prob. After talking to SVT they might be coming out with a new lightning but not until like 2009 or something. I guess I'll just wait a do all my research again when I get back. Things could change alot from now until then.

My truck went from about an 18.0 second quarter mile to a 16.4. Thats with exhaust, e-fans, pulleys and a bama tuner and I can still get about 17 mpg in city w/ 93 octane performance program.

That's good to hear, any report on trap speeds (those are the thing that matters)

I cant see where ANY n/a 4.6 will approach the perfomance of my EDGE tuned 5.4 Super Heavy Weight Screw.. Just dont see it happening...

Hell, Fatherford's seven cylinder 5.4 will still walk the dog on a 4.6

Dang, if you were even close to local, I'd call that a challenge.

It would be fun. Based on my VC200 and my Gtech using their formulas I'm making about 28% over stock with my premium tune, customized, my AEM and my Catback. I've done a couple other tiny mods (That will remain my business as I don't want to encourge certain mods).

That is about the same horsepower per pound as a stock Supercrew Lariat.

If I was gonna race you I would probably cheat and put a set of 29 inch tires that a friend has sitting on XL rims... Wouldn't beat you, but would let you know you've been in a race.

Of course if we made it a real race, not a drag, I could blow your doors off.
I would pick the course.
I know some really fun roads that a Screw is just a bit too heavy/long to do well on. I know because I ran a friend on it with his Screw and he spent more time sideways than straight. But I admit thats a crooked way to win.

hwm3, I don't post numbers, even time tickets, on speed. Have had some bad experiance in the forums on that. I will say I'm doing OK, not setting the world on fire. I think if I ever get around to putting the 4.10 gears under it it would beat a lot of 5.4 trucks. Unless, of course they had gears too... It never ends, does it?
