Do my speakers deserve an Amp???
Do my speakers deserve an Amp???
Hello boys & girls... I posted this question over in the 'proper forum' (speakers), but have gotten absolutely no response! Guess that's what I get for posting in the right forum.
Anyway, I'm basically trying to find out if I'd see a noticeable improvement by adding a simple 4 channel amp to my stereo system. Here's the situation: I have the OEM 6-disk cd (non-audiophile), and some Pioneer 6x8 3-ways. They sound "ok", but obviously when I turn them up a little, they get 'fuzzy'. Plus, I just blew one of them (which was replaced free of charge). Anyway, I want to know if these 3-ways are 'worthy' of getting an amp. I realize these speakers are in no way, shape, or form high-end speakers. So, do you all think I'd see (hear) a sizeable difference if I went with an amp?
Oh yeah, the amp I'm looking at is an Alpine MRP-F240, that puts out 40w RMS x 4, @ 4 ohms. The Pioneer 3-ways that I have are the TS-A6870R, and are rated at 50w RMS (220w max).
Basically, are these speakers "worth" an amp???
Thanks for your help.
PS - RockPick, I know this isn't the correct place to post this thread, but could you possible "let it ride" for little while??? Please!!!

youll notice more of a difference in sound with a new head unit.. .. yea the filters in the amp will help clean up the sound a bit.. however your also more likely to blow all your speakers instead of just one.. i would know i've had personal experience with pioneer..

I just like that I can leave my truck unlocked and not worry about it being broken into for my stereos... I have had 4 HU's, 6 subs and 3 amps ripped off of my 2 old rangers in 7 years... alarms and all... Not gonna go thru that anymore... I am keeping my CD-6 and will just hide an amp and buy good speakers... will sound better than whats in my truck now...

And your alst sentence is what I'm trying to confirm: Will it sound better than whats now in our trucks??
So if I'm going to keep my stock HU, then would an amp improve my system? UberDude answered, but is there anyone out there with this exact/similiar setup that could comment?

hmm.. you blew one of the 3-ways without an amp.. what blew? did the diaphragm tear? i mcurious cause if thats the case then dont get an amp.. youll end up with 4 blown speakers.. it happened to me..i kept the bass cranked and used the bassboost on my amp and all four tore there diaphragms. if what your after is ALOT of bass then you need subs.. theres no way around it.. otherwise tell me what your trying to do and ill tell you if it will work..
