I went with the 3M paint protection film instead. I have it on two different vehicles now (my F-150 and the wife's Escape) and I really like it!

I wasn't so sure about it at first on the F-150, since I thought it showed too much against the Medium Wedgewood Blue paint, but it has really "settled down" over time and looks good now -- and I'm pretty damn picky!

It obviously doesn't deflect bugs away from the windshield (although I'm not sure the actual bug shields do much of that either) but it keeps the front end free from rock chips!

i have one from LUND it was clear and they took my paint code and painted it the same color as my truck. it is painted on the back side so that the bugs won't chip the paint off. if you look at my truck from a little ways off it looks like i don't have one on it at all.

I am extremely disappointed with my Lund Trident. It is attached with clips on the hood and screws that connect thru the OUTSIDE of the deflector itself. (I will try to get pix if you want them)
These screws have since corroded like crazy in the wonderful, salt filled air of a Michigan expressway in winter.
The screws were black to start with, but are now "rust" color.
I called Lund to complain, and because it took me 6 months to complain (like they were gonna corrode in summer?), all they could do for me was send me a new fastener kit with the same type of screws and clips.
After winter, I'll also go with the Ford Low Profile.

the ford low profile screws from the exterior as well- if you go back to my pic on page 1, look at the base of the deflector, aligned right above the center of the headlight--you will see the black screw.

I have an Auto Vent Shade Bugflector II, which looks similar to the Ford one that several trucks have. I don't think that I paid anymore than $50 from Advance Autoparts here in town, but I really don't remember the price.

Same deal here. Had mine on for two years now and I'm VERY happy with it. They probably make the one for Ford.

I wanted to get the Ford Low Profile. But with the way the grill bolts to the hood, I wasn't sure how it would mount.

Does it get sandwiched between the grill and the hood? I was also afraid it would wear the paint. Does it touch anywhere on the hood itself?

Deflector

I've seen a suggestion that you not install a bug deflector. You'll definitely want one unless you want paint pitting and scratches from whatever makes contact with your hood at highway speeds, i.e. bugs, rocks. I got mine at Autozone for about 45 bucks. Nice, clean install. Screws in on the underside of the hood. Easy and with no paint contact. Low profile. I don't recall the name, but I think it's a Vent Shade product. Mine looks exactly like the Ford product, just without the logo. Yet I have to say, the Ford shield is certainly nice and I might have gone that way but I just didn't think about it at the time. I was still hyperventilating over having gotten the new truck.
I tried to convince my mother to let me install a dflector on her Mazda 626 to prevent what I have already described, but she declined. Now she's regretful. The lower section of the hood paint is a mess.

You wouldn't want that. Tape just don't hold up(I've tried it in the past with other trucks). With the AVS you don't have to drill any holes, just use factory ones.

That's encouraging, I really dont want to drill holes in my freakin hood. Does the Ford low-pro install into existing holes?
