Slight shutter/clunk normal opperation?

My dealer told me that a slight shutter/clunk on take-offs is normal opperation for these trucks. The clunk I have isn't an ear shattering bang but a light thump that happens from a dead stop and turning from a stop. The mechanic verified the noise and said this is normal for the limited slip rear end, especially when it's cold. He also said there was no way to completely get rid of the noise and offered no fix.

I was wondering if I should accept this or go back and put more pressure on him to preform the TSB on this problem?
Should these trucks be smooth as glass accelerating from a dead stop, or is a little slippage/thud acceptable? Maybe I'm expecting too much and should live with the noise.
Any thoughts?

Yes they should!
When does this shuddering occur??? 1st to 2nd gear change?
My truck is in the shop right now. Its a 06 lariat, the service adviser just called me to let me know on the progress of my truck.
He couldn't tell me what is bad on the tranny, but they have something coming in today.

The shuddering occurs from acceleration from a stop, and turning from a stop. It's more like a slipping sensation. A couple muffled thuds and then the truck moves. Normal operation according to them. Should my truck be smooth as glass on take-off? Does the cold weather affect this more?
"All trucks do this"...I was told.

Mine does the same thing (9,000mi). I had my dealer check it out, and they re-flashed my ECU, and said to try it, and bring it back in if it was still a problem. It is! So it's goin' back in...

It is not normal, all trucks do not do it. Mine has the same problem and I am going to have to take it back in and have it looked at. I get 2 distinct clunks on takeoff from a stop. It seems to do it worse when cold first thing in the morning.

My truck also does the shutter from a stop, 7800 miles on it.

I agree...when it's cold it's the worst. The mechanic explained to me that if he greased the slip yoke it would only be a matter of time and the noise would return. He reflashed my PCM with TSB 05-19-1 but that didn't help. (I don't even think that TSB has anything to do with my problem.)
He went on to say that the slight thud I'm hearing is the limited slip doing what it's suppose to.
Anywho, is this something that's going to get worse as I get more miles on my truck?....I only have 8,000 on it now. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time and don't want major repairs shortly after my warranty is up.
I'm thinking at this rate, I'll be replacing my clutch packs @ 50,000 miles or so, and this is what I want to avoid.

I had the same clunk and shudder you describe. The dealer replaced my clutch packs around 8,000 miles. There is a TSB for this problem. No problems since with that particular problem(i have 20,000 miles now) However i still get the slight thud, the sound is comparible to bad u joints, and have had the slip yoke regreased 3 times. The TSB for the slip yoke says the only fix as of now is to regrease, which is only a temporary fix.
I love the truck but expected far more of it being my 3rd F-150.
Good luck with yours.

If its only doing it when you are turning then it probably is the clutch pack problem. If it is doing it when you take off from a straight line or when turning it is proly the slick yoke problem. Mine went in 3 times and got the slip yoke regreased. It worked for awhile but always came back. This last time they gave me a new drive shaft and I believe the problem is fixed. Very smooth as take off now, with NO clunks or shimmys.

I have the 3.73 limited slip differential on my truck and have noticed no unusual noises or shudders upon takeoff.

This is my first vehicle with limited slip, and I had heard that they tended to feel slightly different from an open rear-end, so I have been paying attention to see if I can feel any difference. So far I can't say that I've noticed even the slightest amount of difference from past vehicles.

Sounds like you need to bring it back and have 'em replace clutch pack in rearend axle. Its limit slip (junk, my opinion).

Its now smoothing BUTTTT from dead stop &go ONLY STRAIGHT has a little shudder so its slip yoke that i m deadling with...so i tried FOrd Telon garabag grease that only LAST 2 weeks, then I tried GM grease, not good/ not help at all.

So i end up bought me 3 or 4oz (7 bucks or so) Mercury (boat) marinea grease waterproof (for outboard motor) and so far almost a month with NO PROBLEM!

YOMAN!
