For those of you 04-up guys with alarms...

Just got a Viper 771 XV, 2 way alarm and remote start. Just wondering who's got what, and where you mounted your status LEDs and valet switches. I'm pretty set on putting the valet switch in the back of the bottom 'cd holder' on the center console, way out of sight and very tricky. I dont really want to drill my dash to put the LED in, I still want the flash to be visible, I'm just wondering where you all put yours. Right now I'm leaning towards the top of the steering column or making something work with the useless coin holder...

I didn't have a choice when it came to the LED .. it was drilled in the plastic panel to the left of the steering column...(the blue LED is pretty cool though... different than the normal red... did you get the new pressure sensors with it? those are pretty slick!

well with pressure sensors, 4 vibration detectors, and other security devices... the alarm will go off if you fart near it...
(along with my shot gun and 9mm) i pity the person who attempts to break in to it...

I love it... I had the remote start put in it.. and everything works great.....

I like how the remote has the display of the vehicle and notifies you if a problem comes up!!!

the only bad thing is that it "eats" batteries pretty quickly...keep some extra AAA's in your console...so that when it's about to die... you're not locked out and have to set the alarm off to get back in...lol (found that out the hard way)
make sure you are gentle with your remote cause they break easily and are expensive to replace (i've replaced mine once,, my brother has replaced his 3 times..most problems due to dropping it"
(make sure you save all of the install paperwork.. so that you don't have to pay for re-programming remotes)

I got the 791XV, I had the blue LED installed in the middle of the back of the tray on the dash. Along with that LED I have two more scanning LED's mounted on my rear view mirror, this is how it looks at night.

IF i was a thief or carjacker, the ones with the stupid blinking LED would be the ones i would go after. He wants a challenge, and normally when you have an alarm your *trying* to protect what is inside: you got valuable stuff that can be stolen.

We already have the PATS light, and you want another blinking useless LED... He knows what PATS is so that light isn't much to him. Throw the LED away and make your alarm "invisible".

ANY alarm is defeatable.

PATS is defeatable.

Save yourself a hole in the instrument panel and dont install the LED.

i like those scanning ones on the rear view thats slick... coin holder is a no go i just popped it out and looked at the back of it. the tray on the dash is a good idea, but i dont want to have to see that little light every time i look over there... i want it to look as clean as possible. as of right now im leaning towards the top of the steering column or trying to have them tie into the red led thats already there...

edit: asinatra - i have nothing to steal inside the truck but cds... but i can see where you're coming from. i dont want to attract attention, obviously, but if they know its alarmed then im sure theyll be a little more cautious whether they want the challenge or not.

The truth is... the more obstacles you put in front of them,, the less likely they are going to attempt it why waste 45 seconds of a 1 min robbery trying to figure out how to get around the alarm.. when there are plenty of vehicles with out them

The LED's show them that you have an alarm. Why would they break in to a car with an alarm, when there are so many other cars around without alarms???

he's getting at the point that if you're alarming it, you've got something worth protecting inside it. i just wanted the remote start and the alarm is a bonus. i can see the connection, but frankly anyone who REALLY wants my truck is gonna get it, thats what's insurance is for.

I got the ATS alarm starter. Works great.

As for the blinking LED, it is a deterrent. Of course the pro thief is gonna get whatever he wants. But it would deter the meth-head looking for a quick smash and grab.

And for those of you wondering where asinatra came up with this opinion;

the MORE likely a thief is to get caught by attracting attention to themself, the LESS likely they are to mess with the vehicle. You make it sound like they go out looking for the toughest nut to crack so they can brag to their professional cohorts, get written up in the "International Journal of Street Crime", and get famous because they were able to go around an alarm!

Yes any alarm can be defeated, but the low life meth addict isn't out there looking for a challenge...
