For those of you 04-up guys with alarms...
So far about one of you was smart enough to understand what i was saying.
Why would you want to break into cars and gather nickels and dimes. When you can break into some guys vehicle with an alarm (the LED gave him the hint) trying to protect something valuable inside.
This goes the same with knock sensors and sirens. There are so many idiots that crank up the sensitivity: and that it turns into "the boy who cried wolf". And not to mention the fact that IF an alarm does off people ignore it anyway.

Viper Alarm
I have the Viper 350HV Alarm in my '04, RCab. I mounted the valet button onto a cross running wire harness just under the dash, near the steering column. I believe this will deter the Bad Guy from locating my valet button with any ease. I found this to be a good spot as when I erroneously activate the alarm while sitting in the cab I can reach the valet button to code off the alarm.
My blue colored Alarm light was drilled into my dash just to the right of the steering wheel. I like it there as the blue light at that level splash-lights up the cab at night which the Bad Guy will see in addition to the red key code light atop the dash near the windshield. My past two F-150's had the red Viper colored light which was difficult to see during the day and did not offer the splashed colored light into the cab at night.
If your budget can stand it I suggest you purchase a spare, backup remote. Where I got two remotes with my initial purchase, one of the remotes crapped out in approx 4 months. I phoned Viper and it was like asking a High School Sophmore for a date. I touched with my Alarm Installer and they replaced my defunct remote for free, which they would not of had to do. It was just a matter of good public relations. FYI: I initially bought a third remote. It would be a good idea to have your wife carry a spare remote in her purse while you, the driver, carries a primary remote where you choose. I have stood many a time outside of my rig pressing the malfunctioning primary remote time after time waiting for it to turn off the alarm. This was a remote issue that was fixed by the Alarm Installer, not Viper.

I figure when I get rid of the truck in about 7 or 8 years, most cars will probably come with the remote start and I won't want to remove this one anyway. I also figure this starter/alarm will be pretty outdated by then so I won't want to remove it and put it in something else. And is a little tiny hole in a piece of plastic going to be a deal breaker for a truck anyway? I'll buy a small Ford emblem and stick it over the hole if it is.
I have been thinking about putting an alarm/remote start in my truck for a little while now but there are some things that I am wondering about that someone asked but didn't get an answer. I was wondering for those who have a Viper alarm installed is the siren still the 5 different tones like they were back in 2000 or have they changed? Also what's the deal with the keypad after the install?
I need to find a good reputable place to install it if I decide to get one because I've had bad experiences with installers in the past.

I`m in the prosses of getting a viper alarm. Some people get alarms to protect the truck from being stolen. Its nothing but a deterent. From what ive been told the key pad will unlock the doors still but it will not shut off the alarm. Also what method is everyone using to alarm the back slider the installer told me of an magnetic strip he could install. Is there anything else.

It is almost imposible to steal the truck with an alarm. first the need to unlock the factory code key and the the alarm need to be on to make the truck start!
I got the PRESTIGE APS997 it is a good remote starter/alarm. I mounted the LED next to the light switch (It is a cheap part to repace) make it blue looks good!.....I also installed some LED's on the headlights that blink when the alarm is on. they look great and intimidating!
Make sure you have a back up siren!!!!
Some ******** stealed all my sound system!
(momo amp, punch amp, momo sub, kenwood stereo and cds!!!!) They just break the window open the hood and cut the cable of the siren! 15 seconds!
So i got a back up siren with battery (in adition with the regular) if they cut the battery cables/siren cables the siren will sound unitl you unluck the siren with a master key. (even if you press the remote) and also intaled the LED on the headlighs.

Was anyone decision to get an alarm difficult because of the way installers need to tap into your trucks wiring? That is the main reason right now for me not getting an alarm/remote start. I want one but don't want my truck to have wiring issues after the install if they make mistakes.

I have a Viper w/remote start and had Tweeter install it. On my first F150 they drilled a hole in the dash, but in was VERY small. On my current truck, they some how pushed the LED through the crack in the dash...when you're sitting in the drivers seat looking at the steering wheel, it's in the front left corner of the dash where the seam is. I was mad when I first saw it, but like it now because there is no hole there. It is REALLY bright at night and I like it.
The only problem I've had with the alarm is having it set and being out of range when it goes off. The remote will BEEP loudly if it goes off, but you have to be within range...The alarm has gone off before and my remote didn't beep because I wasn't in range. My wife said it did not beep when somebody did a hit-and-run on my car...she was too far away.
I love the remote start feature.

The worst thing you can do is put the alarm decals that come with the kit on your windows...most car thieves are ex-alarm installers. If you have "Viper" stickers on your car...guess what? You just made the break-in that much easier for the thief. Now he knows exactly what system he is working with. Put the LED in...it is a deterrent. Thieves don't want a challenge, they want valuable property. They'll eventually find an un-armed vehicle and have at it.
Viper
My Viper has a "bump and alarm" feature. A hard hit on any part of my rig will sound the alarm. Without the bump and alarm feature any vehicle is prone to being defeated. A close neighbor had his pickup stripped when the Bad Guys went through the back glass. The back glass did not have a slider. The Bad Guys just broke the glass.
Locally the Bad Guys are breaking the glass that does not put broken glass in the drivers seat.
It is essential that a reputable installer install any alarm system. There is just too many connections that needs to be slaved into. Joe, the friendly garage mechanic will not have the schematics or the direct line to the alarm manufactuer when a line tap has to be judged.
