Is this possible to install wrong?

OK,
First I know that this topic has been beat to death, but I just noticed that my AS spacer is causing the control arm to hit the coil (nice rub). I installed the 1 5/8 inch spacer on my FX4 with no problems and did not expect this problem since the larger ones tend to cause this problem. Is there any way that I have messed something up during installation to cause that much height gain? I gained around 2 3/4 inch after install and thought "that's alot". I have heard of some people flipping the coil seat and gaining additional lift when installing others, but I did not take the coils apart. Any thoughts would be appreciated. FYI, I have about and inch gap between the arm and the coil.

Just took a look at mine this morning and see a little "cut" in the coil. I'm not worried at this point. Had mine on a little over a year.
BTW, I also have the 2" kit(1 5/8"spacer) and mine also raised close to 3"

I got it aligned the same day as the install (Oct '05), and just had it checked last week. It really does not bother me that much, but most of these problems occur with the larger spacers. I just think that my springs are really stiff.
Edit: Actually, I just wondered if others with this size spacer were having the contact issue. Just makes you feel better about your own work if others experience the same. Thanks, all.

I think the cut on the spring is only caused by installation. Once the weight of the vehicle is added I have not had any rubbing or clunking problems at all. I do notice some of the plastic cut out of the spring but this happened when it was fully extended during install. Also, it has been recommended to let the truck sit a couple of hours for the weight to distribute properly BEFORE aligning it. And when alignment is done the toe-in is the spec that is thrown off. Also I think mine rides a little harder since the spring is being compressed.(maybe it just feels that way) I am happy with the look and it sure beats a 3"-6" lift price.

Mine did it also. I was "Playing it Safe" with the 2" (1 5/8) spacer. The funny thing is on my friends truck that I installed my old ones on, they work great, no issues thus far. I had trouble with alignment and rubbing. The only difference is mine is a SCREW and his is a regular cab short bed

You know, I installed the 2.5" Autospring. I had it aligned by Ford factory trained techs at my work, and it is nowhere NEAR rubbing on the coil. I should snap some photos. I think these people at Discount Tire, etc. are doing ****ty alignments. You get what you pay for, you know? Mine is PERFECT and I didnt even need the new offset thingamabobberjig.
