I doubt your CEL came from that. I've never heard of it happening. Also, how are they going to know you removed it to begin with? The average mechanic at a Ford dealership doesn't even know there is a silencer in there in the first place!

put the silencer back on and it should be ok. im not 100% familiar, but if removing the tube is allowing the intake to draw in warm engine air, that could be the cause, ive found that the MAFs on these engines do not take well to warm air.

I've had my silencer out for almost 4000 miles on my 4.6 and no problems. Not to doubt the warm air thing, but he's in Ontario where the temp prob hasn't gotten much over 32 degrees. Maybe the MAF is dirty. Have you checked all your fluids and air filter? It could just be a coincidence and something else is the cause. Perhaps try to approach the dealer just to get the code for the CEL, "I need my truck for work can you tell me what the code is so I know it's ok to drive until I can drop it off later". That way if it's intake related you can shove it back in there before you have them look deeper.

Double check all of your connections, make sure the clamps are all on, seated well with the clamp bands tight. Also check to make sure that the hose is clipped tight at the PCV line. If you want to check the engine code being thrown before going to the dealership, run by a local auto parts store. Most auto parts stores will run the codes for free and then tell you what the problem reports to be.
Now, relax.........and keep us informed.

The CEL is not on because of the removal of the tube.

Took it out in my 97, my 2000, modifiyed the intake on my 2003, and now my 05. No problems associated with modifying the intake.

Check your gas cap first and make sure it is on tight. If that's not it, take it to the dealer. If the cap is loose, it may take a couple of driving cycles to clear the code.

good luck.
