proven 5.4 performance mods !!! ???????

hey,

I want to hear from guys who have done this with results, here are my thoughts.

I am removing converter, installing a JLT intake system and a custom
X-cal2 tune.

Hoping to spruce up converter, throttle response, hp& tq.

any real world numbers etc??????

thanks...

Start with the minnor bolt ons and work your way up. Stock converter in a 5.4 with bolt ons and no gears (not higher than 4.88) changes is fine.

I think he is talking about removing the catalitic converter..not the torque converter.

Then again he is wanting to "spruce it up" too...so I have no idea what he is talking about.

I dissagree. I have taken that path and its just not satisfying.

If you want performance.. get performance.. Get yourself some boost.

Supercharge it from the get go and work from there.

1.Gears
2. Custom tune.
3. Supercharge it
4.retune

Just my opinion.. Take it for what it's worth.

I'd have to vote against removing the cats.

1st...it's illegal.
2nd...you will lose a good deal of lower end torque

Here is another vote for leaving the catalytic convertor alone. You will lose low end power.

As for tuning, you should definitely see an improvement there.

What year is your truck btw?

Supercharging a stock block with powder casted pistons doesnt give me a boner. For the price of a supercharger you can have a strong well built motor and then work off that.

People can probally get away with taking off the rear cats legally. Also after much researching, removing the two rear cats on these trucks will net you around 25hp and 15ftlbs of torque at the wheels.

They are NOT highflows like everyone says.

This is true. I'm just saying that I would'nt recommend doing ANY small power adders. Their just not worth it. If you want more power, dont try to take the cheap way out with and intake and exhaust..

Yeah, i hear you. Gears do work wonders for what they are though.

There is so much you can do.

Gears, intake, exhaust, tuner, pulleys, e-fans, performance cats, headers, supercharger and beefing up the internals wouldn't be such a bad idea.

My personal recomendation...

SCT or Diablo tuner
Gears
Electric Fans
Exhaust(catback with rear cat delete, and/or Coated Long tubes)
Shift kit of some sort

Then boost. Could throw in an electric water pump in there somewhere.

I've heard of a new transmission valve body but I haven't found it online.
