True Blue HD valence ON!

I finally got it washed up and some pix taken of the HD valence on an 05' bumper in True Blue. I put this on last Friday and I love the way it looks. Very subtle addition but it makes the front look a little more rounded and fuller. I even had a complement on the truck and I mentioned the new valence and the guy said that the first thing he noticed is how good the front looked. The instalation requires removal of the foglights (3- 8mm bolts on each) and you can access all of the 8mm bolts that hold the old valence on. There are a lot, like 12 at least that hold this thing on so it is VERY secure. Now there are a few problems I had with this and I guess they changed these things for the 06' bumper. The main problem was when I went to bolt it up I noticed that the little part of it that sticks up in the tow hook holes seemed to be too short from left to right and it didn't sit in the spaces perfectly, it actually contacted the bumper in the inner corner of each towhook space on left and right. Hope you understand what I am saying, it just seemed the whole thing was about 2mm not wide enough. All I did was take a rounded file and work out the corners a bit and it fit right up in there so that wasn't really that big of a deal, I just don't know if they actually changed them that little or if my valance wasn't moulded perfectly. The other thing is that 2 of the holes on the valence didn't line up with 2 of the screw holes on the bumper. This again wasn't much of a big deal, there are tons of screws holding it so it was still solid as a rock. All in all it looks very nice and I am pleased with it. And before you ask, the part number is 6L3Z-17626-CAPTM for a paint to match piece and price is $273 from www.fordparts.com. With shipping it is right at $300 so this is definitelly an expensive little piece! I am working on my fender flares right now and will get em painted smooth and True Blue too, so I think those will make it look perfect with that valence!!

Looks awesome You may want to buy the PTM fender flares, the plastic one's wont come out as good as the PTM type.

Why would you remove your tow hooks for that. No offense (really), but I have had a hell of a time convincing myself to remove the hooks for a bullbar, and you removed it for a piece of plastic? You are crazy, or don't plan on wheeling with your FX4. On the contrary, it looks nice.

I kinda like that look.....he's not offroading with the truck...he has a damn blower on it! run that thing on the streets! say hello to a camaro for me!

hey I just noticed something...the 06' bumpers towards the bottom where my FX4 plate is...the top piece goes all across the top and the 04-05's are just slanted! I didn't even know that...never noticed that before...looks good either way

Yeah it is mainly for the streets, plus I always can back up to someone to pull them out and use my reverse cam to line it up . I got an FX4 because I loved the interior and I would not buy a truck without 4 wheel drive simply because I still use it as a truck and it is better to have it when you need it than to be stuck without it. It is good if any foul weather comes our way and I do live on a farm so it comes in handy a lot, but I don't plan on any heavy off roading. And yes, I am crazy............

And it's too late for that, I already have another set of flares sitting in the basement. They are FX4 flares because I couldn't find any Lariat ones and the dealer wants $350 for all 4. I already have one sanded and it came out nice and smooth with no texture to it. As long as they bullydog the surface (the plastic adhesion promoter stuff) and then sand it again, they should come out smooth and shiny like the door handles. Oh and I like your flares!! You must have just got those done, looks VERY good. Your one step ahed of me everytime!

Very nice Matt. Now I have something else to add to my mod-to-do list My truck is Darkstone, so being on the darker side, I'm not sure the mod will be that noticable (since the mod it just for looks anyway), and the piece isn't cheap.... decisions, decisions.

By the way, how much did the shop charge for painting it? Or did you do it yourself?

I am very supprised the HD valance will fit the 05 bumper. I bought a 06 4wd valance when I installed my tow hooks and it would not fit my 04 bumper. The notches where the tow hooks go was off a little.

Looks great man.. I was waiting for you to post pictures of your truck after you installed the HD bummper with the square fogs. I love it and I would do it to my truck but I want to get a bull bar and I see I am not going to be able to mount one if I switch out the bummper. No holes for it to come through.

It is the very bottom part that hangs off of the lower bumper piece.

And I had the guys at work prep and paint it for $80, same guys that did my door handles and I'll get them to do my flares too.
