Check Your Trucks

Yes, I know, I am a little too **** about my truck but I was looking over my truck and I noticed something strange. Next to the top of the grill (red circled areas) there are chips out of the paint. I don't know if they have always been there or if they are new but most of all I don't know how they got there. I bought some touch up paint to fill them in. Check your trucks out, I am not sure if it is to the bare metal but I would hate to see them start rusting. I am not sure if the grill moved, vibrated, or if ford was just rough when putting the grill on in the factory.

My guess would be that a bug guard was on your truck at one point and then taken off. You have to remove the grill to put the bug guard on then it compresses between the hood and grill. The edges of the bug guard are sharp enough to damage the areas you have circled if your not careful during removal and installation.

I bought the truck brand new so I am pretty sure it wasn't a bug guard. It is on the lip of the hood.

Sometimes the dealerships add them on before sale, maybe your truck had one sitting on the lot and they pulled it off before you bought it/looked at it, for some reason. Just a thought.

I believe one, if not both of the corners on mine is like that albeit very small, and it has never had a bug guard on it. I either think it just funnels the rocks right up into that area if they hit close, or if it has to do with movement.

Ditto on the Al. hood, I have a few rock or bug chips on the leading edge so no worries. Does bug me that I have those chips though.

It will still be something I keep an eye on. Bad part the bug shield I have does not cover that corner where the gille meets the hood, so I can see this as a place where it could get chipped up. Touchup paint all the way
Thanks for pointing it out.
BTW: my '06 did not have any chips there.

Ive never seen a vehicle NOT get rock chips.. Its probably the aerodynamics of the truck.

Oh, BTW, did everyone see the new touch up paint with a brush and the pen tip. I saw it on Trucks the other day and picked it up at Pep Boys. Pretty neat since I am terrible with that brush.

Same paint chips......

I noticed I had paint chips in the same location when I went to install my bug shield (the truck was new also) . I just touched them up.

I have the same type of chip on one of the sides in that same location. I still need to touch it up.
