06 150 ???

Picked up a 06 x-cab,6.5bed,4x4,xlt,5.4,auto on new years eve.14.6 mpg so far,1700 miles on it. Went and installed some ventvisors, husky mud flaps. My father-in-law has an old body style 150 with a 6 cyl. He installed a k&n fipk and a exhaust and gained 2-3 mpg. Anything capable of doing that on the 5.4? Really love the factory ride, and quiet, boy is this thing quiet !!! Thanks guys.

First off, WELCOME to the forum. NOW:
It has been posted that our trucks mainly run lean from the factory so adding an intake may make it run leaner(without a tuner). Most have gone between the AirForce-1 and the AIRAID. If you are looking for an intake, these seem to provide the most gains from our trucks. I have read that the Check engine light(CEL) has come on for some AF-1 owners. It is very important that you remove and install the MAF(Mass Airflow) sensor properly as usually this is what gives you the check engine light. The exhaust that has been mentioned to provide the most gains is the Magnaflow exhaust. It has demonstrated proper backpressure while providing some gains. Usually we will try to get more mileage from our trucks but in the long run, the money spent on parts could have literally been many, many full tanks of gas. So you really won't "break-even" for a long long time. To take full advantage of the intake and exhaust then a tuner is needed to make everything run properly. From a superchips 1745 for a little under 300 to custom tuning that could be 400 to 600?? Then you want bigger tires and wheels, then you want a lift and on and on. In my opinion, I woould NOT do TOO MUCH right now. Enjoy your new truck.Break her in properly keep up the service and after about a year or so If you get the MOD BUG have at it. ALso realize that service is sometimes crappy at many dealerships, and everything you add to your truck that is not stock can and may prevent you from having warranty work done(as has been expressed before). Congratulations and good luck.

There is also ALOT of information that has been covered here many times. Sometimes new spins on an old thread and sometimes people trying to shoot, strangle, and beat a dead horse . Or push their belief as the ONLY option for your truck. Salaries differ, driving habits differ, likes and dislikes and so forth. Some will want to spend 5000 on a supercharger, others wouldn't think of it. Take all the responses as OPINIONS and form your own. Kinda like the saying "4 billion chinese can't be wrong". Many will rave about a product and then you will always have a few disappointed souls. Remember that most things you spend for your truck will improve performance, and driveability but very little gas mileage gains. You got alot of reading to do partner. Good luck.

I to have an 06 150sc lariet 2wd 5.4 355 gear and 18" wheels. It just turned over 2k and the gas mileage stinks. The truck runs great and is as smooth as silk but looking at the exhaust pipe it appears to be running rich. so far the best mpg I have had is 14.5. The modded lightning I traded for the 06 did nearly this good. Oh well I love the truck.
