12 Mpg Help!!!

Hello guys
it seems ever since i added the IMCO muffler to my truck the MPG dropped dramaticly, i was getting 17 and ever since it has dropped to 15, 14, and last night when i filled up 12MPG.. what could be the problem? i drive the truck the same as before, only other mod is silencer removed and K&n .. would unplugging the neg. battery terminal for a while work? any ideas please
Thanks

Well I would blame it on the exhaust but since you didn't change pipe size that's not it... I have no idea maybe your gas doesn't like the new exhaust! hope that doesn't happen to me..

more air coming in + more air flowing out = more gas used.

and you still have it in??? My guess is that your muffler took away your lowend torque so you are having to gas it more. 5 mpg is HUGE though. I would reset my PCM (unplug the battery) and see if the truck relearns the properly.

i dont agree at all with you, 5 mpg difference from a muffler? if it was a supercharger i could agree with you, but a muffler?

also yes i have lost 5mpg, and no i dont gas it more, i take off easy at every stop, and even so, i used to floor it all the time with stock muffler and i would get no less than 15 12 is hidious, i am going to try and reset the computer

im not sure, resetting your computer may help, but i would lay at least some of the blame on that muffler

Doesn't matter if I'm happy with it or not. If I were to get rid of it I would take to much of a hit. Let's say I take a hit of $2000; that's a lot of gas... Nothin' I can do.

1. it's the winter blend. In the summer i'll get about 12-13 in the city.

2. She's 2 1/2 years old. I look at it like, if I can afford the truck, I can afford the gas. Yes it's a bit ridiculous sometimes, but again, I'm not willing to take that big of a hit.

I was lookin' at a new explorer but they only wanted to give me 25-26 for the truck.

Not right now. Thanx.

My mileage was crappy when I had an IMCO 1 chamber as well. It ruins your low end and causes you to get in it a lot more at all RPMs. It downshifts much more on the freeway too and that burns a lot of gas. Get a Magnaflow and enjoy your restored torque!

my POS has never gotten anything better than 13.5, I guess I just got used to it. I know it's a big truck, but I'm sorry, 13.5 and lower like allot of these guys get is just wrong. I hardly ever drive my truck anymore, those $60 weekly weekly fillups just hurt too much.

My 2004 F150 FX4 has gotten 12-13 MPG since day one. Maybe yours just finally realized it was a 4WD.
