Mpg!!!??!!

Today was the first day that I filled up my truck after it has been lifted. I filled up the truck before I dropped it off at the shop so I am assuming they didnt drive it that much. It was about 12000 when I dropped it off on a full tank of gas. When I filled up today it was at 12321.4 and it was past the "E" and said LOW FUEL for about 20-30 miles so I am assuming it was almost empty. I filled it up but the thing stoped at $75 and 31.00 gallons. I forgot to put some more in so I could calculate the MPGs but I am assuming I could have gone up to around 34 gallons. SO I calculated the MPGs with 34 gallons and 321.4 miles and that comes out to 9.45 MPG.

Is there any way I can get this number up?? I ordered an Edge yesterday so it should be coming soon but is there anything else that would help my MPGs?

I dont know. I have an FX4 stock gears. I heard they have 3.73 or something like that. I have heard gears will help but they are a little out of my price range right now. maybe later

Lifting REALLY makes the truck look good, but the MPG were bad to begin with and the lift didn't help. I think the EDGE and or different gears but it may not improve much more for the amount of money you will spend(In terms of "in-the-long-run") If you find Something that helps. Please Post.Thanks.

On the highway I can get up to 24-25mpg at around 55-65mph, I'd say the tuner did the most. I do not recommend getting it from Troyer unless my issues are fixed. My gas mileage will not go above 8-9mpg, and I'm bone stock height. I can't get it to go above no matter how good I drive. It only goes above that if I'm above 40mph. Good luck.

Wow man, I am a bit surprised by your problems with Troyer. I've never for a minute believed his 'I'm the only tuner on the planet' sales pitch but I did assume he can tune an F-150 with decent results (like many other tuners). I've been waiting for your full review though. I do hope it gets better for you.

Lightbulb Actually...

The lift has nothing at all to do with mpg...

It's those 35s you slapped on to replace the stock tires/wheels. They are a different circumference than stock and your PCM has no idea that you've changed anything.

The 9.45 mpg you calculated is incorrect because you did not correct for the fact that your speedometer is no longer measuring the proper miles through this last tank of gas...

I hope you have noticed that when you're reading 40 mph, you actually traveling at 44-46 mph. Therefore, not only are you reading slower than actual, but you're putting less miles on the OD than actual.

Of course, the added weight of tires and wheels will take their toll on mpg as well, but not a decrease as severe as you claim to have.

I will say a lift alone will change the the gas mileage simply because the air flow is all screwed up on your rig now. But the tires are the biggest reason. I got 2 mpg better with the Edge on tune 2. This is stock though so it won't be the same for you. Your best bet is gears. 4.11 or 4.56's.

edit: OH, and you gotta pay to play!

huh? you might be onto something there.... adjust the wheel size down with the tuner and travel 1300 actual miles but have the odometer read less....

sweet.....

It would be easier to use the edge tuner for mph and completly disconnect the instrument cluster.

I'm not saying commit odometer fraud but there are much simpler ways than throwing off the speedo telling it you have a different size tire. You will throw a code if you go to far off of what is programmed for normal range.

You lifted your truck which put more weight on an already heavy **** S.O.B then you dropped on what looks like 20" rims and 35" tires... that will decrease your MPG on any style truck you drive. Have you noticed your alot slower now too? Its the price you pay for driving a big heavy lifted truck. If you were worried about MPG you should have bought a hybrid!

Anyways man welcome to the under 10MPG club we look damn good but we also enjoy pumping gas! To console you, " here have a banana."

Assuming that: your MPG is 10.32

And your calcualtion for MPH is also correct - reading 40mph you're actually going 43.65 mph.

Maybe my engineering degree did pay off.

Use the Edge to recalibrate your speedometer. Adjust for the tires.
