Front sway bar endlinks
Front sway bar endlinks
Got some new poly bushings for the front sway bar. Got everything diassembled and the sway bar off. The endlinks are different than anything I've seen, I'm no seasoned mechanic by any stretch. Could someone tell me what exactly these things are. They stay attached to the lower control arm and they swivel. I tried to remove them until I figured out the bar comes off the top of them. I tried to loosen the nuts at the bottom of the control arms but they just seem to spin and not loosen.
Got to test out the new bushings on the highway and back roads today. I'd say they are a good improvement over the stock rubber. After adding the rear bar last week the front just seemed to have too much play. I'm satisified with the bushings over adding a new front bar. Still no idea what the deal is with those endlinks though.
Where'd you get the poly front bushings from?
Are these bushing the part that actually attaches to the lower control arm (end links) or the two connectors in the middle of the bar that attach it to the frame? or both?

I got them from here:

p/n 45190 Includes the upper end link bushings and the two big ones in the center. You can get em in red or green, not sure if the color represents different compounds/stiffness. I've used Energy's before and always got red and always been satisfied.
The two center bushings are narrower than the stock bushings other than that everything works.

For the end that goes through the lower control arm:
You have to use two wrenches; one for the nut and one to hold the hex at the end of the stud. I think you need a 15mm and a 8mm, but can't remember for sure.
At the end where it connects to the sway bar: If the stud is spinning with the nut you have to apply leverage with a prybar or something so it's like you're pulling the stud and turning the nut at the same time.
Or if you have an impact gun, both ends usually just zip right off.

Mine is a 4x4. I didn't even consider that the 4wd and 2wd had different links. That might explain why that site also sells just the 2 center bushings, but they cost almost the same. The 2wd looks like there is no bushing in that endlink. Wouldn't me any, but wonder if the 4wd bar would stiffen up the ride for you 2wd guys.
It like a rubber ball joint between the Sway bar "eye"hole and end link..
dont guess you would really need a poly piece there.
AutoZone sells the 2 center Poly pieces for $20.. Might just have to buy them and try it out..
This was/is somthing ive been thinking about for a few months now... running across your thread scorpio re-vived my thinking..
