rear end clunk

I have an o4 XLT Super Crew. Have had problems with vibration. Dealer has done all the repairs, yolk lube, balance tires, etc. Now whenever I make a right turn there is a clunk from my rear end. Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be? I am going to make another apointment with the dealer, but was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

One problem that I don't have, but it sounds like the LS clutch pack.

Limited Slip Differential clutch packs or Traction Lok as Ford calls it.

Usually just involves getting the right amount of friction modifier into the rear. I actually think that they add too much to mine a few months ago since both don't always spin no matter how hard I get on it. Anyway, pretty simple.

Friction modifier did the trick for mine. I just hope it lasts. Also, dealership lubed my slip yoke and the vibration on take-off is gone. If it happens again, I am telling the dealer I want to see how they do this, so I can just do myself--sucks that we have to deal with this though.

I had the clunk from take-off problem. (turning or straight). The dealer lubed the slip yoke 3 times. Everytime it worked for about 2 or 3 weeks then it would come back. I got the truck back from the dealer yesterday for that and the ash tray rattle. This time they ordered and put in a new driveshaft. So far, it feels great. They said this was the only solution if lubbing the yoke didn't do it. New ash tray with some foam on the back seems to have done the trick also.

i had the clunk in my 05. it happened at the same place every day. turning right off a main road onto a side road. slight incline. at about 20-25 miles an hour. got the truck reflashed for the hesitation and the clunk is gone.

dont know if this is the same as yours but thought i would pass it along.

I just got my truck back from the dealer for the rear end clunk. They replaced the drive shaft. So far so good. It was my first visit. They wouldn't do the reflash of my pcm, even though I told them about the poor shifts and sluggish engine performance. My build date was 1/05. I have the edge on order so it doesn't really matter. Can't wait to get my edge.

Ronsbusa...I also have a build date of 1/05 on my FX4. I took it into the dealer for the rear end clunk and a slight binding/slippage when accelerating from a stop, moderate acceleration from 20-25 mph and turning from a stop. The dealer told me they verified the noise and said the slight slippage was normal and the clunk wasn't bad enough for service work. I did get a reflash TSB 05-19-1 but that didn't help the noises. It did make the truck a little more responsive and shift faster.
My question is this...is a slight rear end slippage/clunk normal for these trucks? Are they suppose to accelerate smooth as glass?

Ask about wedges installed on the rear axle to rotate the entire axle forward a little bit.
