05 6 disc...

Ok I have an 05 Lariat and the 6 disc will not work it just makes a crazy noise so I take it in to ford to get a new one they tell me it will take a week to get it here. I ask why they told me that it is going to be programed to my truck just like the one is now, well I thought this was funny cuse I took the one thats in my truck now ( before it was broke) and put it in a 04 STX it hooked up fine. so the service guy just gave me a dumb look and said well it should not work in any truck but yours, does anyone know if the new 6discs or any of the Ford head units are truck specific cause I think its all BS

As far as I know...they are not truck specific.

FX4 Matt,
That is BS. I bought an 05 MP3 6 disc changer from a member here in the classifieds for my 04 FX4 and it works just fine. No "special" programming required.

I had the same problem with my cd6/mp3 player the minute I drove off the lot - it made a bunch of clicking noises trying to read a non-existant disc. I took it back and the *stereo specialist* looked at it and told me they could replace it but that style was on backorder. He snagged a single cd player from one of the trucks on the lot (told me it would be faster if they sent mine back instead of just ordering one then sending mine back) and it worked fine for the 2 weeks I had to wait for the new one. So they should not be vehicle specific. Make sure you try to take out any discs still in there, as I lost two cd's.

One reason they might have told you about the week thing is so you don't find out that the 04,05 cd6 radio's jamming was a common problem and that they are/were on national backorder from the manufacturer. I guess the stereo guy was probably not supposed to tell me this

Same problem my freind I have a FX4 06 and mi CD broke with the second disc, yes the 2 disc that I introduce, so far was in December so factory was close today they call to me, and told me that the stero arrived, but sorprise is the same but not, they told me that the 6 CD that arrived is for Explorer 06 no for F-150 06, they need to take of mi broke stereo, take the serial numbers and make the order again, and I need to wait another week, so far I´m listening only radio since I have mi truck.

By the way I send a lot of thanks to all of you I from Venezuela and I´m reading your posts since october, you help me a lot to buy the truck, I´m going to post my picks soon and of course one with gas pum with 100 liters or 26.5 galons for 4.5 us dolars , hey not the galon the full tank

well to finish they told me that they have almost 5 numbers of parts to find the cd radio, I guess its depends of the country, year, model, etc. so be patient and give him the number in the stereo if you have yours out form the dash

Some Ford radios need to be programmed, some don't. In any case, the programming is done on site with a Ford specific scan tool.

I bought a new, never installed Audiophile 6cd/mp3 HU off of EBay and installed it in an 05 XL regular cab. The Audiophile has settings that are not designed for my cab, but the HU works great. There are lots of guys on here that have changed these head units from one truck to the next.
