Tailgate Will Not Lock

Hey Guys I got a 04 F150 S.Crew and the Tailgate will not lock. I tried both sets of ignition keys and it will not lock, it's like it's the wrong key because when i put the key in the hole I can not even turn the key. Any Ideas or anyone else had this problem? I think the lock might just need adjusted? What to ya think? Thanks for the help

if you bought your truck new then i have no idea, but if you bought it used then it sounds like the person before you may have had to replace the tailgate and forgot to change out the locks

Frozen maybe? Mine froze a few weeks back, I put some de-icer in the lock and now it works fine.

You can get to the cylinder fairly easy by taking off the 8 bolts on the back of the tailgate and remove the panel, the cylinder is just held in by a locking ring, slide it out remove the cylinder and clean it out.

It's possible the tailgate was swapped due to shipment damage, and they forgot to swap the lock cylinders. I had the tailgate swapped on my truck due to deep scratches under the dealer sticker. The dealer initially forgot to swap the lock cylinder with it.

Just spray some Liquid Wrench in the lock and work the key in and out a few times it will work, my Ford Taurus will do that some times.

My 05 had this problem, the dealer had to re-key the lock, was in and out in less then an hour.
