Lowered It a Little

I am not too much into mods but there are some things that just drive me nuts. I could not stand the gray spokes on the XLT wheels on a black truck, so I while back, I painted the spokes black and I liked the way that turned out. Since then, the jacked up rear on the truck has worked on my brain. Mainly the huge space above the rear tire. So, I finally installed the Ground Force 2" shackle kit. I was concerned that I would create a vibe or shudder, but it rides great. No problems. I went with the Ground Force as it comes with the spacer wedges and I installed them as well. It looks much better to me.

While I was at the Tire and Wheel place getting this done, the guy offered to let me pick out any chrome 20" wheel and he would put on Michelin LTX 275-55-20s for $1500 and my old tires and wheels. I have 18,000 miles on the tires. Sounds pretty good to me, but just not into that big of wheel. If anyone in the DFW area is interested in checking this out, email me and I will give you the store info.

I do not know. He sells the trade-ins, had several sets from different types of vehicles. I would guess that he would be getting about $400 to $500 for the trade ins. The thing is, when I buy tires it will be the Michelin LTX. I have had two sets on other vehicles and they are very good.

Also, he had Edge tuners for diesels, and an assortment of Superchips. I asked if he had heard of the latest Edge for the late model Fords. He said no, got on the phone, came back and said he had them coming, would be $375.

C'mon, Jim, live it up and go with the 20's!

I'm telling you, the wheel wells on these new bodystyle trucks are so big that 20's don't look "blingy" at all -- I think you'd be surprised!

I have the GroundForce shackles as well and have been very happy with them!

Yeah these trucks are strange...even with 22's, from a distance they still look dwarfed. They only look large when you dont have the entire truck in your view.

You are just trying to get me to spend my money! Actually, I just like more rubber in relation to the size of the wheel. For my taste, 18" are about as big a wheel as I like. I think I will keep the 17", and go with a taller tire to fill the well a little more. I have updated the pics in the gallery if anyone is interested.

I hear ya' -- I wish I had a little more sidewall height with my current rim and tire package. One of these days I might actually breakdown and get a different tire, or maybe even switch-out my 22's for some 20's with a "taller" tire....

PS -- Nice 'Stang! That is an unusual color -- I don't think I've ever seen it before and would have guessed it was not original to that car...

Hey Ddwellwo,

I will hijack my own thread. I bought the double cd of Lyle Lovett, "Come into My House" and Delberts latest, can't think of the name of it, Saturday. I like them both a lot. I like Lyle's music but this is the first time I have bought his cd. I think I have all of Delbert's. I want Lyle's song, "In My Own Mind" but did not find it at the Barnes & Noble where we were.

That's one of the few Lyle albums I don't have -- isn't it the one where he covers songs from some of his favorite songwriters? A friend of mine has it and I really like the song "Bears" that's on it if it's the album I'm thinking about...

That's the one. Some very good songs on it that don't get a lot of airplay, and an interesting little booklet with it.

He's definitely one of those artists who's carved out a very interesting career.

He get's very little airplay and you can't really categorize his music into any one genre (country? jazz? adult contemporary?) yet on a national level, everyone seems to know who he is. I suspect he does very well financially, and is somewhat of a local "Who's Who" down here in Houston, showing up at virtually every "big" local event.

He's from right in my area of Houston (Klein/Tomball area) and all the local restaurants seem to have a picture of him eating there, yet I have never run into him anywhere in the 10 years I have lived down here.

Saw him in concert once -- a birthday gift from the wife! She actually hates most of my music, but likes to tag along to concerts and such so she can people watch!

Sounds like my wife, she goes for me, likes to people watch and likes the personal info I discover about artists. Out of 23 or so songs on that Lyle cd set, only 2 or 3 sound country, the others are as you say, hard to catagorize. We saw a song writers show at the Bass Hall in Fort Worth last year that was great, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely and Guy Clark. They took turns doing songs they had written. Was a nice evening, but made you want to see each in his own concert. I have seen Hiatt and he was awesome. I decided not to go to Lyle's last concert at Bass Hall. Tickets were about $75 each. He sold out both nights, maybe next time.

I'd really like to see John Hiatt in concert -- love his music!

My favorite radio station back in my hometown of Minneapolis puts out a charity "sampler" every year with artists on it who came into their studio and recorded live "on-air" cuts for that day's "traffic jam" segment. The one they released a couple of years back has Mr. Hiatt on it doing a version of "Memphis In The Meantime" that will leave you down on the floor and gasping for air it's so good!

In fact, I think I'm going to go spin that cut right now to get psyched-up for today's run!
